Application (confd) SMS is intended for:

-the relay engineer

-the mairitena:riöepersötiiiel

-the commissioning engineers

With the use of SMS when commissioning, parameters can be prepared in the office anddown loaded to the protection in the station.the use of a PC as a local MMI gives animprovedoverviewof.all parameters and func-tions, and also an informative hel p text foreach parameter for improved understanding.

The information includes parameters, indica-tions and internai self-diagnosis. Disturbancefiles collected manuallyor automaticaUy byJhePC are evaluated with an MS WindowsTMbased progtam (REVAL). Automatic analys isof the disturbance files in hi,gh voltage appfica-tions is performed by an expert system(RESDA).SMS is above all to beused as a w~ytp tran$-fer information from the stations, directiy to thecentral relay office where the fault. evaluationtakes place. It also provides an improved localMMI on a PC in the station.

Design AJI terminals includes the possibility to syn-chtonise the internai clock via the SPA-bus,using a data communicator, e.g. a SAID, asmaster sending out time messages on theloop, or an existing controi system (SCS). Timesynchronisation can also be performed bymeans of a galvanic minute pulse connected

tö the protection terminals in the

The design of SMS is modular, consisting ofhardware and software building blocks. Themodular structure makes future extensionsand step-by-step implementation easily done.

HardwareThe hardware requirements for a complete moni-toring system are minimal and to a high extentbased on commercially available equipment.

by allSPA-bus version 2.4.

These bus connector units are then connectedto afibre optic loop. The loop consists of glassand/or plastic fibres depending on the lengthbetween the different units. The fibre opticloop ends up in an opto/electrical converter, with an RS232 electrical interface which isconnected directly to the serial port of an IBMcompatible PC. The converter can also beconnected directly to a telephone modem, andthe PC placed at a remote location.

Several optical loops can be connected to thePC via a data communicator, e.g. a SRIO.. orother opto/electrical devices, e.g. SPA-ZC22.thus forming a star configuration. This configu-ration gives higher availability but is not ascost-effective as the loop configuration.

It is also possible to have a PC both locally inthe station and at a remote location communi-cating via telephone modems. This configura-tion requires RECOM in the local station-PC,equipped with two serial (COM) ports. Thelocal PC is connected to the opto/electriealconverter via one of the serial ports and to thetelephone modem via the other serial port.

-the telephone modem handling (Hayes com-

patible modems)

-the setting of communication parameters

-the password functions

-a terminal emulator for communication trou-ble shooting

-the error correction for the communication

To the SMS-BASE software platform, the fol-lowing software modules are added accordingto the actual application.

SM/SPASM/SPA--is the software module for parametersettlng and supervision of the protection termi-nals in the SPACOM series.

SM/SACOSM/SACO is the software module for parame-ter setting and supervision of the SACOannunciators in the SPACOM series.

SM/SPTOSM/SPTO is the software module for configura-tion of the controi modules in the SPACOM series.

RCALCRCALC is a stand alone simulation and calcu-lation program running under MS WindowsTM,used to check the reach of a distance relay, especially for high resistance earth faults whenthe power transferred on the line is high.

The network configuration is a two-machinesystem with up to three lines -two with mutualcoupling and one without. Different faults likephase to earth, phase to phase, two phase toearth and three phase faults can be applied.

A drawing function is included which gives a pos-sibility to check the size of the operating area in aR-X diagram when the relay setting is changed.

The RCALC includes the characteristics for thefollowing distance relays: RAZFE, RAZOA,REZ 1, REL 100, REL 511, and REL 521.

RECOMRECOM is a communication program for man-ual or automatic collection of disturbance filesto a PC from REOR 100 / RCRA 100 (versions2.2 and 3.0) and terminals in the REx 500series equipped with optional disturbancerecorder. When installed, the program is inte-grated in the SMS-BASE structure. When thedisturbance recordings are collected byRECOM they can be evaluated by REVAL.

The automatic function in RECOM is a MS Win-dOWSTM based universal Scheduler programpolling the stations the number of times perday specified by the user. When new distur-bance recordings are available they will auto-matically be transferred to the PC.

The RECOM Scheduler also makes the use oflocal and central PC possible since, beinginstalled in the local PC, this PC will be transparentfor SPA-messages coming from the central PC.

DRCOMDRCOM is a communication program for man-ual or automatic collection of the disturbancefiles to a PC from the disturbance recorders inthe SPACOM series. The program can be usedas a stand alone program or it can be usedwith the REPORT program.

The automatic function is polling the distur-banGe recorders periodically according to settime interval. If new disturbances are availablethey will automatically be transferred to the PC.

The DRCOM includes a simple presentation of thesignals. When the disturbance recording is col-lected the files are converted to the COMTRADEformat and can then be evaluated by REVAL.

EVECOMEVECOM is a communication program formanual or automatic collection of the distur-banGe files to a PC from the terminals in theRE. 216/316 series equipped with optional dis-turbance recorder, and also the SPCR distur-banGe recorder modules in the SPACOM series. The program is to be used as a stand aloneprogram, running under MS WindowsTM.

When the disturbance recording is collectedthe files are stored on the PC and can the n beevaluated by REVAL.

REVALREVAL is a disturbance evaluation program forevaluation of files collected from REOR 100/RCRA 100, REx 500 series, SPCR 8C27, RE. 316series, and other recorders complying to any ofthe formats handled by REVAL.

It is a MS WindowsTM application, which meansGmouse based interaction and easy handling. It

includes extensive functionality such as:

-measuring of instantaneous amplitude, RMS-value, time and phase angle

-individual or equal scaling

-individual line type and colouring of signalsas weil as grouping of signals

-merging of up to three disturbances

-handling of up to 33 analogue and 144 digitalsignals in one window

-printout on WindowsTM system printer

Design (cont'd) file, RESDA does the analysis automatically. The result file is then transferred via the publictelephone network to the central PC byRECOM where the central part of RESDA isinstalled. The station part is installed in everystation where information is collected.

RESDA Central is installed at the office wherethe central database is accessed. The data-base is built up with data from the distur-bances. The information in the database isused for reports, fault statistics and mainte-nance planning. It is possible to export thereport files to MS ExcelTM and MS WordTM.

REPORTREPORT is a program for alarm and eventhandling, and polling of measured values, reg-isters and other values. The program is auto-matically with in user defined time intervalspolling selected events, alarms and other val-ues from the terminals. Events and alarms areshown in time order on the screen.

The events, alarms and other polled valuescan be stored on thehard drive or printed to aprinter. REPORT always requires a data commu-nicator, i.e. SAla or SACO 148D, in the station.

The REPORT program can be used with all ter-minals .in the SPACOM series and also theREL 100, REG 100, and the protection termi-nals in the REx 500 series have been inte-

grated.

The selecting of the events to be included is apart of each SM/... module respectively. Thismeans that a SM/... module for each terminaltype in the system must be installed in the PCin order to achieve the REPORT functfonality.

REVAL can read and convert files of the follow-ing formats:

-REVAL (REOR 100/RCRA 100 version 3.0and the REx 500 series terminals)

-EVE (REOR 100/RCRA 100 version 2.2 andthe RE. 216/316 series terminals)

-COMTRADE which is an IEEE standard

REVAL can convert files to the following for-mats:

-DADiSP@ (Mathematical signal analys is tool)

-MATLAB@ (Mathematical signal analysis too/)

-User defined ASCII format

REVAL is available in several language ver-sions, e.g. English, Swedish, Spanish, Germanand Italiano

RESDARESDA is an expert system for disturbanceanalysis. It is a MS WindowsTM application, which means mouse based interaction andeasy handling. It is used for automatic fault anal-ysis and statistics. It also performs an accuratecalculation of the fault location using an algo-rithm including load compensation. RESDA is tobe used together with REOR 100 1 RCRA 100and terminals in the REx 500 series with anoptional disturbance recorder. RESDA can onlybe used in solidly earthed networks since rela-tively high fault currents are required for the

analysis.

The program is divided in a station part and acentral part. Both parts are needed for thefunctionality. The station part of the program isto be installed in a PC located in the station. When RECOM has collected a disturbance
