Suggested Home Learning Ideas – Monday 29 th June – Who Lives Under the Sea? Hello Recepon! We hope you have had a relaxing and peaceful weekend with your families, enjoying the sunny week! We continue to miss you and we can’t wait to see you all again soon! This week our theme for ‘Home Learning’ is related to the Seaside, Coastlines, Beaches and Rockpools! – You can focus on any particular aspect that you wish. You may wish to create your own project Fact File based on your favourite Sea-Life Creature! Mrs Linfield has been researching different types of crabs with her children and Mrs Pearce has been busy making pretend sandcastles and ice-creams with her children! Reading and English

Please aim to read every day!

• Read a variety of books at home every day. Do you have stories which contain different sea-life creatures from under the sea? Do you have any books which

• Try to explore both fiction and non-fiction books this week about ocean life and seaside creatures. What is the same and what is different? What different

features does a non-fiction text have compared to a fiction text? How do you know? Can you compare and talk about the different books above?

• Read something as well as a book: try these websites with an adult – Reading Eggs, Nessy the Monster, Mr Mc - The Early Years Teacher, Bug Club. Please ask an

adult first before going online to look for reading activities. You may wish to play a phonics game or read a whole story book yourself – to your grown-up at

home!

• Can you read and write your full name? If you can spell and write your first name – can you begin to practice your surname? Once you have mastered your own

name and surname can you please try to read and write names of special people in your own family? Can you write your teachers names independently? Can you

write down the names of sea-life creatures you know using your phonic sounds e.g. c- r- a b = crab / f –i –sh = fish / oct-to-pus = octopus / sh –ar – k = shark

• With the help of an adult can you begin to research and read different facts linked to a sea-creature of your choice? You may wish to make your own Fact File

• Practice the phonics sounds below and blend words. This can be oral blending (spoken out loud) and written down.

• Extend to some new sounds: ch, sh, th, ee, oo, or, er, igh.

• New Sound to Revise: Can you explore the ‘ar’ sound e.g. shark, park, ark, dart, part, dark.

• Can you also practice your handwriting of the key sounds using a pencil and lined paper.

• Challenge Reading by sight: said, have, like, so, do, some, come, were, there, little, one, when, out, what, because, when, why, who.

• Weekly Spelling Bee words: Can you learn to spell and write these words over the week? park, shark, dark, ark, harp, star, car, jar, farm.

• You could have a mini test on Friday – you may use sticky post-it notes or your exercise books. You can also make flash cards on small pieces of paper with your

adult at home.

• This week can you make up some sentences for each spelling bee word above? Please use the picture clues to help you with some ideas. You may wish to cut out

the pictures to play a reading game of snap!

• I like to play the harp in my bedroom. Can you open the jam jar for me?

You can enjoy this story with your grown up at home. You may enjoy shouting “Shark in the Park!” You can listen to the story every day so you become more familiar

with the story language and features. Many words and phrases are repeated… Can you listen out for them? You may wish to write your own story book or draw some

illustrations and art pictures linked to the text… You may use paints, crayons, pencils or pens.

• Challenge: Can you begin to write your own Shark in the Park, fiction story based on the text above? Talk through your ideas with a grown up.

Maths

Sammy the Shark is very good at counting forwards and backwards from 0-10 and 0-20!

He is also very good at counting in 2s, 5s and sets of 10!

Can you practice verbal counting and oral chanting this week with Sammy the Shark?

• Can you make and display your own number line for your home? You can make a small or a large one to display!

• Can you say 1 more or 1 less than any given number? e.g. 1 more than 10 = 11 / 1 less than 15 = 14. Please ask an adult to help you with different verbal

questions for 1 more and 1 less. Play this verbally like eye-spy when you go on your daily walk.

• Subtraction/Take Away Challenge: Look to your number line to help you count back and take away. Sammy loves eating and snapping at numbers! He loves

to pinch some fish and take them away for his dinner! Remember to write down your calculations clearly. Try to form all of your numbers accurately this week!

on, over, between etc. You may wish to make a telescope and a Map of the Park for Timothy, for you or for a shark! You may give your instructions to a family

member verbally or use a remote control toy.

• Look around your bedroom and garden – Can you find different 2D and 3D shapes? Can you build your own shark, fish or telescope using different shapes?

Religious Education

The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle have shared some resources for parents to use at home relating to the Pentecost topic in line with the children’s learning in

school. Have a look at the Reception guidance for ideas.

Healthy Lifestyles / Oral Health and Hygiene Sharks have large teeth! As humans we also have teeth… our teeth need to be clean and looked after too! When we are growing and developing it is important to wash our face, clean our teeth and brush our hair – even if we are staying at home! This week please can you remember to brush your teeth daily. Can you also keep a ‘Food and Drinks’ Diary to ensure you are making healthy choices throughout the day – choices that give you a balanced diet for your teeth and body! Remember to ask an adult to help you! Brush for at least 2 minutes and twice a day! Here is an example:

Remember your bed-time routine is very special and important – so you have the right amount of energy for the next day!

Staying Healthy throughout the Week and Month of June: Exercise is important to stay healthy; try to exercise at least once a day with your family. Walking and cycling is an excellent way to stay fit and healthy at the moment! How will you exercise this week? Do you have a daily routine? Getting enough sleep and exercise is really important for your growing body and growing brain! Please visit:
