WHAT IS SUMMARIZING?

Students summarize what they learned and answer the essential question.

Summarizing is how we take larger selections of text and reduce or condense them to their bare essentials.

Summarizing is in essence a brief, concise restatement of the main facts or points that are worth remembering.

WHY SUMMARIZE?

It can be used as a formative assessment tool. It gives evidence of student learning. It helps students remember the content longer. It helps develop the student’s critical thinking skills. It helps to reinforce content vocabulary. It helps to guide learning and to ultimately answer the

essential question.
