SUMMER TERM 2012 The Boyd School provides academic programs for children twelve months out of the year. This contin- ued learning calendar allows for an extended period of educational growth during the summer months when traditional programs are closed. Children enrolled in our Summer Term continue their academic progress and avoid the developmental regression associated with the traditional school year model. The Summer Term is a relaxed environment offering children a hybrid educational experience combining our Montessori learning environments and materials with extended curriculum enrichments. The engaging thematic enrichments are designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore topics and the open- ended curriculum allows for the student to steer the outcome. SPORTS SMORGASBORD (June 18-29)Physical Education, Team Building Children will have FUN as they learn teamwork and new skills with this exciting introduction to recreational games and sports. Bowling, Disc Golf, Track & Field Events, Scooter games and Miniature Golf will be enjoyed by all. New skills and sportsmanship will be displayed as the children enjoy a Field Day on the last day of camp.

WEIRD, WACKY SCIENCE (July 2-13)ScienceGet ready to explore the mystery of science. Children will experience hands on science activity as they investigate the power of the sun, create a colorful eruption to celebrate the 4th of July, discover the properties of plastics and make their own slimy polymers, learn how airplanes fly, and produce music with the palm of their hand.

MUSICAL PLAY - CHARACTER MATTERS (July 16-27)Dramatic ArtsChildren will audition, work on sets, make costumes, act, and sing as they come together to enjoy the magic and excitement of theater culminating in an amazing musical performance.

GOING WEST - PIONEER DAYS (July 30-August 10)HistoryWhat was it like to travel west in the 1800’s? The children will find the answers as they travel back in time to the days of Westward Expansion. Participants will experience western, prairie, and trail life through research, discovery and hands on experiences.

CREATIVE LITERARY & ARTS MAGAZINE (August 13-24)Reading, Writing, Technology, Visual ArtsStudents will create and publish a Literary and Art Magazine. Students will write fiction and non-fiction stories and articles, create poetry, and produce original artwork and photography to submit to the magazine. Students will edit their writing, design the layout, compile, name and publish their very own class magazine. Children will be excited to bring home their own work in print.
