Parent/Child Shrimp, Kipper, Inia, & Perch Levels. This YMCA program provides the highest quality of early water experiences for children age 6 -36 months. Four levels of progression will see your child through water adjustment and onto basic skills. Program instruction is directed toward helping you work with your child. Each child is always accompanied by one parent. Classes maybe combined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Pike With Parent Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad and learn same skills as the child would in Pike. The next level from here would be Pike.

Summer Session 1: 5 weeks (All days except Friday) $50M/$100NM; Friday $40M/$80NM (No Class July 3)

Level 1: Pike The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Level 3: Minnow In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 50 yards; basic breaststroke 50 yards; backstroke 50 yards; elementary backstroke 50 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 4: Fish In this class swimmers will learn to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 100 yards front crawl; swim 100 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 5: Flying Fish In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: Shark In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley. Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly

Level 7: Porpoise Must be able to swim front crawl with bilateral breathing and flip turns, backstroke with flip turns, breaststroke with open turns, glide and correct kick for 200 yards, as well as basic butterfly for 50 yards.

Kiddie Kollege Teachers lead your child in a fun, exciting experience. Children have fun learning through creative play, crafts, music and educational tools. All classes are planned with age-appropriate themes and lesson plans. While also exposing your child to a physical curriculum that includes swim lessons on Monday, gym activities, fitness and outside play. All students must be potty trained. Before School, K-8th The Leaning Tower YMCA (LTY) School Age Child Care Programs partner with several Chicago Public Schools for the 2015-2016 school year. The Before and After School Programs are in partnership with Edgebrook Elementary School and is held at the Leaning Tower YMCA. Children are supervised and engaged in activities beginning at 7am for the Before School Program and ending at 6pm for the After School Program. The School Age Child Care Programs require participants to attend a minimum of three days a week. The selected days must be consistent within the given month. Parents may change the selected days if LTY is notified by the 10th of the prior month and space is available. (Example: LTY needs to be notified by March 10 if a parent would like to change their child's program days for April). Child care rates will be drafted from your credit card each month beginning on Sept. 1, 2015 and ending on June 2016. At LTY, program participants engage in arts and crafts, science and math activities, play games and sports during gym time and play in our outdoor playground, field, and track when weather permits. Staff are available to transport children from the After School Program to other YMCA programs for which the child is registered. Homework assistance is available; however, we do not offer tutoring services or one-on-one assistance.

Little Athletes This is an introductory class to a variety of sports for the little athletes ages 3-5.

Little Ballers Little Ballers is an introductory basketball class for children ages 4-5.

Little Ballers This Little Ballers class is for children ages 6-7 who aren't quite ready for game play but want to continue developing their basketball skills.

Students will learn ballet barre work, center work, leaps, and turns. Proper dance etiquette, respect, responsibility, and taking turns will be stressed. There will be creative movement and improvisation toward the end of class if time permits. At the end of the session there will be showcase to demonstrate what the students have learned.

Creative Dance This class is great for young people who like to move. Students will be introduced to a structured environment and learn how their body moves. This class focuses on coordination, rhythm and creativity though the use of games and music. Sharing, taking turns, and team work will be incorporated as well. At the end of the session there will be a showcase to demonstrate what the students have learned.

Modern/Ballet Students in this class will learn both ballet and modern dance techniques. This class will consist of a simple ballet barre, center floor work for both modern and ballet, traveling, steps, leaps, and turns. Students will also develop and discover their own style of movement, as well as develop, poise, confidence, and discipline. At the end of the session there will be a showcase to demonstrate what the students have learned.

Little Ninjas Give your child a head start by enrolling in this class where participants learn basic martial art skills, develop coordination, and balance.

Youth Beginner Karate This class builds a solid foundation of core Karate techniques through which participants will improve kinesthetic awareness, fitness, mental focus, and unity of the mind body and spirit.

Novice Karate This class is for the continuing Karate student with some experience under their belt. Students will further their mastery of Shotokan Karate Kihon and Katas.

Tae Kwon Do Tae Kwon Do is for participants interested in gaining self-esteem, respect, discipline, coordination, and balance while learning self-defense. This class is for ages 6 and older.

This class is not just for runners! Flotation belts are provided. Heart rate monitors and water bottles are recommended but not required. Check our schedule for class times!

GRIT Series Unlimited allows you to join all GRIT classes offered. There is also a daily rate to join a class: $10. If you plan to do 2 classes a week for the session, that is a $100 value that you will get for $90!

Kettlebell Kombos This class uses the Kettlebells, TRX, and a variety of other strength training equipment to increase power, endurance, and body strength. This class will also boost your heart rate and calorie burn to maximize overall results.

Power Pass With the All Access Pass you pay one flat rate per session and are able to come to as many fee based classes (excluding GRIT series) per week as you want.

TRX Tri Training Using the Suspension System, participants will be taken through a series of challenging exercises to improve their overall functional muscular strength and endurance. TRX interval is for the more advanced individuals who have experienced high intensity workouts or who are familiar with the TRX system.

MaxTraining Y MaxTraining System goes beyond personal training. It is a complete exercise and nutrition system customized to your goals, nutritional habits, health, fitness experience and pre-depositions.

Personal Training One-on-one personal training involves one or more regular training sessions designed to help you achieve your fitness goals. Your certified personal trainer with work with your schedule to develope a personalized fitness program. Whether you are just a beginner, just need help refining your workouts, or what to really push yourself to the limits, personal training is for everyone.
