other on the long walks to the pool, pray for each other in Bible study, and love each other through it all. Our Shepherding Sheep family is a safe and accepting place where we welcome campers of all abilities and provide them with a place to have fun and express themselves, all while surrounded with God’s love and the love and compassion of His children. And this year, we were fortunate enough to add 20 new members, campers and staff, to our growing family.

For those of you who have experienced our Shepherding Sheep week, you know these things to be true. Three short days is all it takes to learn about each other and love each other. And at the end of those three days, you will have new relationships that you will cherish forever and will eagerly await the reunion at next year’s camp. We look forward to reuniting with our family and welcoming even more new members starting May 27, 2018. Keep your eyes open for more information this winter!

the non-intended moments. A new event was created this summer, called Bible Memory Time, where each overnight group was challenged to memorize a couple of Bible verses. It was set up as a competition between groups, and encouraged the groups to learn verses, which were either the daily

message. This became many kids’ “diamonds” for the day, and allowed children to retain the themes from the week.

Staff shared Christ with the youth at Camp this summer in many different ways, and encouraged them to bring Christ home with them. Every camper this summer created a multi colored popsicle stick cross to hang on their wall. Many campers wrote verse addresses on these crosses, giving them the physical reminder of the message of summer, to hold

the best memory we at Camp Wartburg could ever wish to give our campers.

Higher GroundGenerous individuals who give $500 or more to

Camp Wartburg over the course of the calendar year will become Higher Ground members. 2016 members who supported us at this important level were honored at a dinner held in March 2017. Our guest speaker was Rev. Kale Hanson.

Our 2017 Higher Ground members will be honored at our dinner to be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Please consider joining this special group of donors/supporters of Camp Wartburg. You will receive regular correspondence from our Executive Director to keep you up-to-date on the latest in our outdoor ministry. You and your friends will also be invited to special Camp activities throughout the year. Call Theresa Thorburg at 618-939-7715 extension 11 for more information.

Loved Sent Servant EventChrist Memorial Lutheran Church, as part of their Loved Sent Servant Event

through Serve St. Louis, joined us on October 7, 2017. Their mission? To show God’s love through community outreach. Camp Wartburg was one of thirty sites served by Christ Memorial members and one of thirty-six Serve St. Louis sites. Volunteers were able to assist with landscaping needs on our ever expanding grounds. We are grateful for the positive impact these projects will have on those we serve.

If you, your church, and/or your school are interested in doing a Thrivent Action team to benefit Camp Wartburg, please contact us. Don’t have any ideas? No worries, we have projects in mind that will help us provide a positive, fun and lasting impression on youth and adults.
