The Computer and Instrumentation Council is made up of Society members who have an interest in computers, nuclear instrumentation, data analysis and medical physics and their applications in therapeutic, diagnostic or investigational nuclear medicine. It provides a source of information relating to computers, nuclear instrumentation science, data analysis and medical physics to the Society through meetings, seminars, and publications as well as promoting the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in this area. This Summer 2017 newsletter highlights educational activities of the council at the recently concluded 2017 SNMMI Annual Meeting in June. These sessions are made possible by the dedicated volunteer efforts of council members and are an important function of the council. If you are interested in contributing to educational sessions at the SNMMI Annual or Midwinter Meetings, please let me or another board member know. Several CaIC scientific awards were presented at the Annual Meeting and many of these awards are highlighted in the articles that follow. The CaIC provides the opportunity for computer and instrumentation scientists (whether they be physicist, engineer, physician or technologist) to network and contribute to the advancement of technical aspects of molecular imaging and therapy. If you have ideas, suggestions or comments on council activities, please contact me or one of the CaIC board members with your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you!

In addition, he had previously attended postdoctoral research fellow position in the Divisions of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland (2014-2015) and Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, MD, USA (2011-2013).

Dr. Karakatsanis received his integrated Bachelors-Masters Diploma as well as his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2005 and 2010, respectively, from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. His PhD thesis was on the optimization of preclinical and clinical PET imaging systems performance and data acquisition protocols using Monte Carlo simulations. He has authored and co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and over 70 refereed proceedings in international meetings and conferences.

Dr. Karakatsanis is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) organization and actively participating in the activities of the Computer and Instrumentation Council (CaIC). He is a also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the IEEE Nuclear Plasma and Sciences (NPSS) society. Dr. Karakatsanis has been certified by the American Board
