Summer Session occurs during the nine-week period between June 13

– August 12, 2011. This time frame pro-vides an excellent opportunity to pursue one or two classes intensively, without interruptions and demands of other classes or campus activities. Summer Session classes fulfill residence credit requirements and are open to matricu-lated Fresno State students as well as to the public.

Why Take Summer Session?

• Concentrate on one or two courses at a time• Maximize student success• Accelerate time to degree completion• Explore new academic areas of interest• Pursue professional development

Who may register for a Summer Session Class?

You are not required to be formally admitted to the university to take a Sum-mer Session class. If you are 18 years of age or older, or are a high school gradu-ate and have met course prerequisites, you may register for Summer Session. Matriculated and disqualified students, as well as the public, may take Summer Session classes.

If you expect to complete degree or credential requirements through Sum-mer Session, you should confirm course applicability with your advisor. Reg-istration in Summer Session does not ensure registration for, or admission to, the university, nor should it be inter-preted as acceptance to any degree or credential program. If you are interested in formal admission to California State University, Fresno, contact the Office of Admissions, Records and Evaluations at 559.278.2261.

Course Prerequisites

When selecting courses, you are advised to refer to the course descriptions in the University General Catalog for prereq-uisites or special qualifications which may be required for certain courses. In some instances, permission to enroll in a course must be obtained from the department or instructor. Students not meeting course prerequisites may be administratively dropped from a class.

Course Descriptions

Course descriptions for topic courses are on page 10. Other course descriptions are in the General Catalog, available online at www.csufresno.edu/catoffice/current/ or for purchase at the Kennel Bookstore.

Academic Load Limit

Students are permitted to enroll in a maximum of 12 units of credit during Summer Session.

Registration Fees and Course Fees

Fees are listed on the chart inside the front cover of this catalog. Some courses have additional course fees for lab materials, etc.; see Classnotes on the schedule.

Financial Aid

Financial aid may be available for matriculated students enrolled in a minimum of six units during the summer (Intersession and/or Summer Session). Summer Interest Forms will be available in the Financial Aid Office beginning April 6 and must be submitted by May 13. Questions? Please check with the Financial Aid Office at 559.278.2182 or Joyal Building, Room 296.

How to Register

Early Registration for Summer Session is March 21 through May 24, 2011. All fees must be paid in full by May 24,

2011. Paid enrollments determine which classes are declared a “go” and which ones are cancelled. Register early to ensure your place in the class of your choice, as each class has an enrollment limit. Payments can be made online or at Joyal Building at the Cashier’s Counter. Indicate that payment is for a Continuing and Global Education class. Payments by check should be made payable to “California State University, Fresno” or “Fresno State.” Registration will freeze May 24 through May 30.

Beginning May 31 through the first day of class, additional registrations will be accepted (space permitting). Beginning May 31, fees must be paid in full within 24 hours of registration; non-payment of fees will cancel your online registration after 24 hours.

You may register online or in person at the Division of Continuing and Global Education. During the regular academic year, the Division is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Summer office hours, beginning May 23, are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Matriculated Fresno State students may register by logging in to my.csufresno.edu.

New or non-matriculated students should visit www.csufresno.edu/cge/registration/credit.shtml for registration instructions.

Late Registration

There is a $10 late fee per course for registrations received after the class start date. For classes lasting four or fewer days, no registration will be accepted after the class start date. For all other classes, no registrations will be accepted after the fourth calendar day from the class start date.

Grading Option

Select your choice of grading option—Letter; CR/NC (credit or no credit)—choosing only what is available for your class (verify with department if enroll-ing in person). The grading option you

designate is what will be posted on your permanent transcript, providing that op-tion is available for the course. For class-es lasting four or fewer days, changes in Grading Option (including changing to Audit) must be made prior to the class start date. For all other classes, changes in Grading Option (including changing to Audit) must be made no later than Friday of the first week of class.

Wait Lists

There are no wait lists for Summer Session; however, if space can be made for you in the class, your instructor may give you a permission number to add the class.

Go/No-Go

Decisions about which Summer Ses-sion classes “go” will be made based upon the number of paid registrations received by May 24, 2011. On May 31, the list of courses declared a “go” will be posted on the website: www.csuf-resno.edu/cge/summersession. Classes with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled. If your class is cancelled by the University, you may enroll in a dif-ferent Summer Session class, or you may request a refund. (See Drop/Withdrawal and Refunds.)

Drop/Withdrawal

Students who fail to attend class may re-ceive a failing grade unless they formally drop the class.

To drop a class, drop online at my.csufresno.edu. To request a refund, complete the program change form (www.csufresno.edu/cge/forms) and submit it to the Division of Continuing and Global Education.

No drops are allowed after the fourth calendar day. Students who have a seri-ous and compelling reason and who wish to drop on the fifth calendar day or later may petition to drop with a grade of “W.” Pick up a Request for Record

Adjustment in the Division of Continu-ing and Global Education or obtain the form online: http://csufresno.edu/are/forms/Record_Adjustment.pdf. Submit the request to the Admissions, Records and Evaluations Office in the Joyal Building.

Refunds

Refunds are governed by California Code of Regulation Title 5, Section 41802.

In order to request a refund, you must complete the Program Change/Refund form located at: www.csufresno.edu/cge/forms.

Refunds for Partial Withdrawals

Refunds for partial withdrawals (reduc-tion of units carried) will be based on your total fees paid and the remaining units in which you are enrolled.

Example 1: Undergraduate student registers for six units, paying $1,287. Student drops three units prior to the start of class. The fee owed for three remaining units is $955 ($945 plus $10 refund processing fee). Refund to student will be $332. Example 2: Undergraduate student registers for six units, paying $1,287. Student drops three units after the start of class, but before 25 percent of the course time has elapsed. The fee now owed is $1064.70, which is $945 for remaining three units plus $119.70 (35 percent of $1287 minus $945). Refund to student will be $222.30.

After 25 percent of the course time has elapsed, no refund will be made.

Refunds for Complete Withdrawals

Students who withdraw prior to the start date of the course can receive a full refund minus a $10 processing fee per course. There is no refund for classes meeting fewer than 5 sessions or lasting fewer than 5 days, once the class has begun. If you withdraw on or after the

first class meeting of a face-to-face class with five or more class meetings, 65 per-cent of fees collected can be refunded until 25 percent of the course time has elapsed. For online and arranged classes lasting 5 days or more, 65 percent of fees collected can be refunded until 25 percent of the class has elapsed. After 25 percent of the course time has elapsed, no refund will be made. No refund is made unless requested by the student.
