United Methodist Church Mission

To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission is to reach out to others to help them meet their needs and

to welcome them into our family of faith as we gather for worship, fellowship, education and service.

Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church

* Please stand as you are comfortable

(Please write your Celebrations and Concerns in the Prayer Book on the stand in the back of the

Sanctuary. These will be read and prayed for during the Sharing of Concerns and Celebrations.)

COUNTDOWN “Red Letter Edition of Matthew”

WELCOME & GREETING Rev. Fred Baum

*OPENING HYMN No. 126

“Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above” (1,2,4)

*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 19:1-4a, 14

Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work

of his hands.

People: Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal

knowledge.

Leader: They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

People: Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends

of the world.

Leader: May these words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts

People: be pleasing in your sight, Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer.

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON 2 Timothy 1:3-10, 13-14 3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and

day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see

you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first

lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now

lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through

the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but

gives us power, love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about

our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the

power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything

we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in

Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the

appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and

immortality to light through the gospel.

13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in

Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help

of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

TIME WITH CHILDREN & YOUTH Valerie Hammons

PREPARATION FOR PRAYER No. 396

“O Jesus, I Have Promised” (1,2,4)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Psalm 19:8-14

The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The

commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the

Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all

of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure

gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By

them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.

Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then

I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May these words of

my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O

Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our

sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In the name of Jesus

Christ you are forgiven!

People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

All: Glory to God. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER Rev. Alan Delafield

SHARING OF CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS Rev. Fred Baum

OFFERING “God of Grace” (arr. Paul Manz) Mary Bellah “These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their

burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a

house of prayer for all nations.” ~ Isaiah 56:7

*DOXOLOGY “Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation” (4) No. 559 Sung to “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” No. 127

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. Fred Baum

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON 2 Corinthians 3:1-3 1Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people,

letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2 You yourselves are our letter, written

on our hearts, known and read by everyone. 3 You show that you are a letter from

Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living

God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Leader: This is the word of God for the people of God.

People: Thanks be to God!

ANTHEM “There Is a Higher Throne” (Lloyd Larson) Chancel Choir

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily

bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass

against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For

thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
