M y Dear Family of Faith,

There are two things I'd like to highlight this week. 1. We will begin the penitential season of Lent this Wednesday, February 14, with Ash Wednes-day. The ashes we receive re-mind us of our mortality and the need for repentance from our sins. Like holy water or blessed palms, ashes are a sacramental. They are a visible symbol of our faith. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obliga-tion, but it is a significant day in the Church year and in our lives. On Ash Wednesday (as well as Good Friday), we follow the obligations of fasting (from meat) and abstinence (see page 6 of this bulletin). On all Fridays during Lent, we abstain from meat. The sacrifices we make during Lent remind us of the great sacrifices our Lord Jesus Christ made for us. During Lent we may choose to offer other sacrifices, such as giving up a bad habit or something we truly enjoy. It is a great opportunity to grow stronger at rejecting temptation and saying no to our own personal desires. It is a way to better unite ourselves with Jesus as we journey to the cross with Him.

2. I'd like to thank everyone who provided their input during our parish planning study these past few weeks - either by per-sonal interview or by complet-ing a survey. The information that was gathered by the Steier

Group was presented last week Wednesday even-ing to our parish staff, Pastoral Council, Finance Council, Building and Grounds Committee and Forward in Faith Commit-tee, as well as others who were interested in at-tending. I will be meeting

with our parish trustees to re-view the results of the study and to determine the best pos-sible plan for our parish. I will keep you informed of any deci-sions that are made. May God bless you,

Rev. Fr. Chad Droessler, Pastor 1-608-620-5849

Stewardship Reflection for February 11, 2018 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Brothers and sisters, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 CORINTHIANS 10:31

Do a quick check of your Stewardship. Where does God rank in your life?

2018 Diocese of Madison Annual Catholic Appeal

The theme for the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal of the Diocese of Madison concentrates on Hope. We ask that God grant us the ability to put our hope in Him to allow us the capacity to love and care for those in our parishes, our diocese and the Church throughout the world. We ask that His grace make us even more generous in supporting those needs. Each pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal supports diocesan ministries, education and services and as-sures a strong future for the Diocese of Madison and the people that it serves. This year each of us is asked to consider making a pledge, payable over five months. Your gift will help enable the diocese to reach its goal and provide grant opportunities for Catholic schools, religious education programs and assisting distressed parish-es in need. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

IHM Endowment Fund for Catholic Education

The parish Endowment Board met on February 6, and would like to thank all those who provided a gift to the Endowment Fund during the months of Novem-ber and December. A total of $6,000 was donated, which was matched for another $6,000 by an anony-mous donor, for a total of $12,000. We are very grate-ful for their generosity and ask God's blessings upon them.

Celebrate National Marriage Week February 7–14, 2018

Celebrate the beauty and sanctity of marriage with Humanae Vitae (1968-2018):

Married love particularly reveals its true na-ture and nobility when we realize that it takes its origin from God, who “is love” (no. 8).

“Marriage . . . [is] ordained toward the pro-creation and education of children. Children are really the supreme gift of marriage and contribute in the highest degree to their par-ents’ welfare” (no. 9; GS, no. 50).

World Day of Marriage (February 11, 2018)

“A Family that prays together, stays together.” Our relationship with God and each other is the foundation of the family. Having a strong marriage bond will strengthen the family. Married couples can strengthen their family and their marriage by praying the following prayer daily:

Our Marriage Prayer

Lord, help us to remember when we first met and the strong love that grew between us

To work that love into practical things So that nothing can divide us

We ask for words both kind and loving and hearts always ready to ask for forgiveness

as well as to forgive Dear Lord, we put our marriage into your hands

Amen

Lent 2018 begins with the observance of Ash Wednesday

The Catholic Church asks each member to preserve the peniten-tial character and purpose of Lent by attending to the following fast and abstinence regulations. Lent fasting and abstinence rules for Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent, including Good Friday.

Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday and are un-der 59 years of age are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Ash Wednesday and Good Fri-day Fasts: only one full meat-less meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be tak-en according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. When health or ability to work would be seri-ously affected, the law does not oblige.

Catholics should not lightly ex-cuse themselves from these prescribed minimal penitential

practices.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES IHM Quilting Group

A new social quilting group is being formed that would ultimately (in the future!) have a goal to make quilts for charitable events (ie. quilts for raffle for Christmas Bazaar and Gala, and donation to preg-nancy crisis center). If interested, email Ashley at [email protected] or call 603-988-6560. Our first meeting will be on February 21 at 6 p.m. in the Rectory Basement. Illness and Participation in the Mass

The Diocesan Offices have received a number of questions regarding participation in the Mass during the flu season. We hope that the following points are useful:

While Catholics are obligated to attend Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, a serious reason may cause you to miss. Being sick is a serious reason for being excused from the obligation to attend Mass. If you have the flu or some other serious and/or contagious illness, please stay home. (Another common serious reason is severe weather.)

If you feel you have a cold or if you have a compromised immune system, please don’t shake hands with others during the sign of peace. You may smile and say, “The peace of the Lord be with you.”

If Holy Communion is offered under both forms, please do not consume the Precious Blood if you are not feeling well or if you have a compromised immune system.

PRAYER Family Adoration

Our next gathering will be February 15 at 5:30 p.m. Following adoration, stay and enjoy a potluck dinner in the Church Meeting Room! Please contact Kelly Bond at 608-839-4312 or [email protected] to be added to email list. Please join us! LAST NAMES please bring: A-H Dessert, I-P Side dish, Q-Z Main dish (to feed 12-15).

Weekly Eucharistic Adoration

On Ash Wednesday, Adoration will conclude at 6 p.m., rather than our usual time of 8 p.m.
