Prayer for the Canonization

of our Parish Son, The Venerable Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor, and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment

of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast.

We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor, I now pre-sent (here make your request). Through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

The Legion of Mary meets every Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 PM in the McGivney Center.

WHY CHOOSE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS? As we begin our preparations for Catholic Schools Week, this year January 29 through February 4, it is important to look at the reasons that a Catholic School is the best choice for any child. Catholic Schools offer academic excellence and faith-filled education for stu-dents nationwide. National test scores, high school graduation rates, college attendance and other data show that Catholic Schools frequently outperform schools in both the public and private sectors. In fact, the High School graduation rate for students who at-tended a Catholic School is 99%! And 85% of those graduates go on to college. The staffing ratio in Catho-lic Schools (national average) is 13:1. This is according to the National Catholic Educational Association. It shows that students in a Catholic School receive the attention that they need for the education they deserve from a faculty and staff who are dedicated, caring and effective.

Streaming Into the Future at St. Mary School This year, St. Mary School

adopted a STREAM Academy

model of curriculum.

STREAM stands for Science,

Technology, Religion, Engi-

neering, Arts and Math. The

STREAM structure explains

where students are invited to explore, analyze and cre-

ate while making meaningful real-world connections

to the areas of study. Students in a STREAM program

outperformed their peers in the area of math, science

and literacy. St. Mary School is proud to be the first

school in the Archdiocese of Hartford to have adopted

this model. It has the students, teachers and parents

excited about learning at SMS!
