We pray that the joy and peace of Easter may touch all hearts to know the beauty of the resurrection, and how this challenges us to not take for granted the light of God‘s love in our lives. It is our hope that all who visit our parish may experience the warmth and light of Jesus, not simply in the words that are said in our rituals, but most of all in the faces, encounters and conversations shared between members of one family – the risen Body of Christ – you and I! Sunday of the Resurrection

16th April 2017 Easter He is Risen

On Friday we remembered the crucifixion, what a horrific, brutal and humiliating way to die. Let us also remember when meditating on the greatness of Christ‘s sacrifice that it was not the end. The crucifixion without the resurrection is just the tragic death of another good person. The resurrection without the crucifixion is an amazing spiritual phenomenon without any sacrifice to make it meaningful. So often we speak about living in Easter Joy, but do we know what it is we are saying, or have we indeed experienced such a reality?

Many people return to our churches at Easter, to re-join the people of God as one family. In a special and unique way, this drawing together of so many people, either on holidays, or perhaps joining us again just for this celebration, this brings our parish community great joy! As part of our spiritual journey through Holy Week, as people redeemed by Christ, we are called to stay with Jesus in the darkness of the cross, and dwell with him in the shadow of death. However, this then gives way to the bright promise of immortality, to the rising of the sun, to the warmth of heavenly light, and the love of God which conquers death and fear. To live as God‘s people is to live as those enlightened by Christ, filled with gratitude and joy at what he did for us, and ultimately to walk in the light. To those joining our parish community at Easter for the first time – welcome! to those returning to our parish family after some time apart – welcome home!

Working Bee

St. William’s The Working Bee last Saturday was a marvellous Easter spruce up for the church and environs. Our 20+ “busy bees” worked vigorously through the morning to have every speck of dust obliterated. Thanks everyone.

Thank you to the wonderful people who assisted in so many different ways in our three communities -

providing palms and rosemary, ironing, cleaning & decoration, the planning/playing/singing of music & liturgy and the various ministers. You have all helped make our Holy Week liturgies so special.

Your time and effort is most appreciated.

Let’s Be a Welcoming Community We often host many visitors at this spe-cial time of the year. We can all help visitors feel at home. A warm welcome often takes nothing more than a smile and a warm “hello”.

The Lent program cards for this year have been a standout and there have been times when we did not have enough. Parishioners

are becoming more aware of their value in the Lent period. We will purchase more next year. The same can be said for the “Little Black Book” for Lent. People are beginning to realise just how well they suit time poor people who otherwise would find it difficult to prepare for Easter during the Lent period. There is an Easter prayer card for everyone today in all 3 churches – more than the previous weeks. Take one – you can use this prayer throughout the Easter period up till Pentecost Sunday when we begin a new season in the Church’s Liturgical Year. Now that the Lenten Program has concluded the Adult Faith Education team is preparing for about 6 events between now and the end of the year. The next one will occur on May 9 at 7.30 pm in the Daley Centre here at Grovely, when Fr. Stephen Byrne will give the first of 3 talks on Matthew’s Gospel, the one we mostly use at Sunday Masses this year. This talk will deal with what Matthew’s purpose was when he wrote his Gospel – knowledge of his purpose is critical if one is to understand his Gospel at a deeper level. The resurrected Christ sweeps all of us into his kingdom of love, mercy,

compassion and joy – not only us but everything in the world and the universe,

a world in which everything is connected. Enjoy it. Happy Easter everyone.

Mercy2Earth is an initiative of the Global Catholic Climate Movement that combines Earth Day (on Saturday 21st April) and the

feast of Divine Mercy, on Sunday 22nd. The goal is to give continued encouragement for Catholics worldwide "...to reflect on Pope Francis’ important “Show Mercy to our Common Home” message and put it into action." (mercy2earth.org) Take a moment to look at the wealth of resources and ideas on the mercy2earth.org website. The truly global scope of the campaign is evident in the interactive map that shows events happening across the world. It's heartening to know that so many people are passionate about showing care for creation through their reflections, ideas and actions.

Social Justice Group

During the Easter season, you are invited to bring a container to take home some holy water from the baptismal fonts.

Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe: You have shared your life and grace with us. In your mercy, Bless + us and bless + our home. May we be people of prayer, and our home a place of prayer and peace. Let us live in your love, and be generous in our love and service for others. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Easter Sunday - A A VOCATION VIEW: You have been given new life in Christ.

Forsake earthly materialism, in order to live life to the full.

A man, his wife, and mother-in-law went on vacation to the Holy Land. While they were there the mother-in-law passed away. The undertaker told them, "You can have her shipped home for $10,000, or you can bury her here in the Holy

Land for $500."

The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $10,000 to ship your mother-in-law home, when it would be wonderful to spend only 500?"

The man said, A man died here 2000 years ago, he was buried here and Three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance."

Easter Sunday “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” COLOSSIANS 3:2 Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Congratulations:

Angela Collyer, Mariano de Souza,

Amanda Dyer, Mark Dyer, Angela Hind,

Alison Powell and Sara Prendergast.
