Page 4: Surviving exams A students guide. How many stars can you draw in 1 min?

Six Steps of Goal Setting

1. Identify Goals, short term and long term. Write them down. Set achievable targets for yourself. Write down the percentage you are aiming for. Plan your achievements in stages.

2. Set a Deadline. Put a date on when you will complete your goal. Set specific goals for study times. Eg. Finish 3 chapters in a week, in a day etc. While making a time-table, make it a term-wise, monthly, weekly and daily schedule. Include time spent in studying, in school, travelling, and playtime.

Page 5: Surviving exams A students guide. How many stars can you draw in 1 min?

3. Identify people who can help you achieve your goals – teachers, parents, friends etc.

4. List skills you need in order to reach your goal. Use all your strategies to achieve your goal.

5. You need to ask yourself “What’s in it for me?”. Visualize what it will feel like to achieve your goal.

6. List down what you are willing to give up to achieve your goal. You may have to cut down on tv watching, meeting friends etc.

• Submit all journals and assignments in time (internal exams marks will be counted for your SSC.) Do well in prelims.

• Be aware of the paper format (marks allotted, paper pattern, criteria for assessment etc.).

• Incorporate the tips given by the moderators while studying and writing papers.

• Schools are always aware of Govt policies and procedures, as well as exam plans so always rely on information given by the school.

When you have negative thoughts •What if I forget everything I have studied?•What will my parents think of me if I don't do well?•What if I don’t get the percentage I want?•What if my friends get more than me?

Try converting them into something positive like- “I will try my best.”“I can do well.”“I am capable of doing well in the exam.”
