Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala clinched the all island schools girls under 19 hockey championship when they beat Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya from the hockey town of Matale 2-0 in the finals of the hockey championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and played at Jaffna College grounds, Jaffna yesterday. At half time there was no scoring.

The winner after a quiet start made their impression clear with

some fine stick work through their forwards who made several attempts to penetrate their oppo-nents and succeeded in the 10th minute of the second half through centre forward Sandani Dilhara who sounded the brands.

With the Sangamitta girls stag-ing a fight back, the Janadhipathi Vidyalaya decided to insultate themselves from an equaliser and scored their second goal through centre half Thushani Sachintaka which put the issue beyond doubt.

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya won the consolation trophy by defeat-ing their home town rivals St Anthony's Girls College, Kandy by the big margin of 4-0 after leading 2-0 at the lemons.

Goal scorers for Seetha Devi BV were Wathsala Jayasinghe (1), Sapuni Guruge (1), Samudra Chandrika (1) and Nilusha Weerasinghe (1).

In the semi-finals Sangamitta BV beat St Anthony's BV 2-0 and Janadhipathi Vidyalaya beat See-tha Devi BV 2-0.

The 48th Annual Open Six Mile Sea Swim, con-ducted by Kinross Swim-ming and Life Saving Club will be held on Sunday 31st, March 2013.

This most popular long distance swimming compe-tition held annually attracts almost all the long distance swimmers in Sri Lanka and undoubtedly is the longest distance swimming compe-tition in South East Asia.

Every year around 100 competitors from Clubs, Schools and Armed Forces and Police participate in

this competition. The course of the swim is from Wellawatte to Mount Lavin-ia and back to Wellawatte an to qualify for awards and certificates the competitors have to finish the race in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The meet is conducted with the sanction of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Asso-ciation.

Entries have already been invited for this meet from Swimming Clubs, Schools, Armed Forces and Police and the entries close on March 15, 2013. In addition

to the following Challenge Trophies the winners will receive cash prizes.

1. M G Sirimanne Memorial Challenge Tro-phy for the Winner of the Men's Race.

2. John Roche Chal-lenge Trophy for the win-ner of the Women's Race.

3. Turab A Jafferjee Memorial Challenge Tro-phy for the Men's Team Championship.

4. Guy Theideman Challenge Trophy for the Women's Team Champi-onship.

5. Dama Perera Chal-lenge Trophy for the 1st male Kinross Swimmer to finish within the time.

6. George De Bruin Challenge Trophy for the 1st female Kinross Swim-mer to finish within the time.

7. Maharajah Challenge Trophy for the youngest male swimmer to finish within the time.

8. President's Chal-lenge Trophy for the youngest female swim-mer to finish within the time.

9. Tissa Ariyaratne Challenge Trophy for the oldest swimmer to finish within the time.

Last year at the 47th Annual Meet held on 8th April 2012, the men's race was won by Kaushal Manawadu of St Joseph's College, Colombo, in a time of 2hrs. 25 mts and 15 secs, while in the women's race Imesha Sewwandi of Sri Devanan-da Vidyalaya, Ambalan-goda was the winner, in a time of 2 hrs. 46 mts and 56 secs.

Nishantha Pradeep Kumara of Ambagamuwa, Ginigathena in the Nuwara Eliya District is an out-standing athlete who brought international fame to his motherland.

Nishantha Pradeep Kumara who represented Sri Lanka in the Asian Mas-ters’ Athletic Meet held in Taipe Taiwan in 2012 won a silver medal for the event of 400 metre race and a bronze medal for the event of 4x400 relay race held under 35 years age group.

Not only that Nishantha Pradeep Kumara was able to receive similar victories at the Asian Masters’ Ath-letic meet held in Malaysia in 2010.

lege in the Hatton educa-tional zone in the Nuwara Eliya district and a gradu-ate of both the Sri Jaya-wardenapura and Kelaniya Universities, Nishantha Pradeep Kumara carries out his duty as a Samurdhi Manager of the Ambaga-muwa DS division in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Garette House of Trinity College emerged champions collecting 573 points at the Annual Inter-House Sports meet of Trinity College, Kandy held at the Trinity Stadium, Asgiriya, Kandy on 1st March 2013 under the patronage of Archdea-con of Kurunegala Diocese Ven. Nimal Wickramarath-ne.

Junior House champion-ship was won by Saunders House collecting 362 points.

Following are the House positions (Seniors):
