Syneron Medical Introduces New FDA-Cleared 5mm Spot Size for Treatment of Onychomycosis.

The introduction of this new FDA-cleared handpiece expands the functionality of the GentleYAG® Pro and GentleMax® Pro Nd:YAG laser to treat onychomycosis (nail fungus) in addition to its existing capabilities for hair removal and for the treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions.

Onychomycosis is one of the most commonly diagnosed foot conditions, affecting 10-12 percent of the population. This prevalent and persistent disorder results in thick, jagged nails that can injure surrounding skin, spawning secondary infections and ulcers. Diabetics are especially at risk with a 34 percent chance of developing fungal nail infection and an increased instance of other complications. In those age 70 and up, 50 percent are expected to develop onychomycosis.

Currently a $1.6 billion market in the United States, the treatment of nail fungus has been challenging. The previous standard of care has been oral antifungal medications, which carry side effects including the potential for hepatotoxicity (chemical driven liver damage) and a high failure rate. Topical treatments have also resulted in limited success due to their inability to properly penetrate the nail.

Laser therapies like Candela’s Gentle Pro Nd:YAG Laser allow physicians to treat onychomycosis symptoms locally without the systemic effects of oral medications. All infectious agents, except prions, can be killed by heat, which makes laser therapy an

Please join us in celebrating a transformative moment in the Aesthetic Device Industry.

We are happy to announce that the UltraShape non-invasive body shaping device is NOW FDA CLEARED!

The UltraShape System is the first and only FDA cleared, non-invasive body shaping device that uses Focused, Pulsed Ultrasound to immediately and selectively destroy fat cells and to demonstrate measurable results in as little as 2 weeks.

In light of achieving the FDA clearance, we have created a NEW Campaign around the word,

Focused.

Syneron Sublative Technology Earns CE Mark for Stretch Mark and Acne Scar Treatment.

Sublative has been shown to be an effective and safe way to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, acne scars and other skin irregularities in all skin types with minimal side effects, discomfort or downtime.

It is also proven to improve mild to moderate wrinkles, red and brown spots, thus offering a complete face and body rejuvenation solution.

The unique Sublative ergonomic applicator delivers bipolar radio frequency energy via a matrix of electrodes from the disposable Sublative iD tip.

UltraShape! Now FDA Cleared!

Sublative™ for both FACE & BODY!

The rationale behind this campaign was inspired by UltraShape’s Focused, Pulsed Ultrasound technology.

The following items have been uploaded to partners-online:

- Focused on YOU! Patient Materials: Ads, Rollups, Posters, Patient Brochure

- UltraShape Product Teaser Movie

This fractional delivery of RF energy causes micro-epidermal ablative injuries with wider spread dermal coagulation.

This initiates a strong wound healing response in the dermal matrix whilst also minimising the damage to the epidermis.

Less affected tissue surrounding the matrix points may be stimulated by heat which helps accelerate the healing process, leading to improvement of acne scars, striae and various textual and tone irregularities for a smoother, rejuvenated appearance of the skin.

PR AND MARKETING

Q&ADianne Burkhill, UK Marketing Manager, Quizzes Charlotte Moreso, MD True Grace PR on her role with Syneron-Candela

Q. What’s your background Charlotte?A. I’ve been doing beauty and lifestyle PR for nearly 20 years now! I was PR Director for Tesco Health & Beauty, I worked in-house at L’Oreal on their prestige brands Lancôme and Giorgio Armani cosmetics/skincare and I’ve have had my own agency True Grace PR for over 4 years. We specialise in aesthetic beauty, men’s grooming and high street beauty brands.

Q. How long have you been doing the PR for Syneron-Candela?A. True Grace PR has been working with Syneron-Candela on promoting their treatments/devices for over 3 years. In this time we have seen many amazing new technological advances come to market and we’ve set up trials for 100’s of journalists to test them out!

Q. What does your job for Syneron-Candela actually involve?A. True Grace PR looks after the UK public relations. This means we promote treatments and devices to journalists so that they write about them positively (note we DO NOT write the articles only the press releases for the journalists to read and then put in their own words!). Not only are we involved in new launches but we are sometimes asked to come up with campaigns to refresh existing devices and their treatments.

When it comes to the launch of new devices we are involved from the very start before they go to market, often coming up with new names to make them more commercially appealing to both the clinics and the end users. From here we devise a PR Campaign which in-cludes the writing of press materials with photography that is designed to make the treatments as desirable as they can be! We also work with KOL’s (normally London based due to the location of journalists) obtaining quotes and case studies to use in press. One thing that is integral to our job is getting the beauty journalists to actually try out the treatments. A personal trial or reader trial gives better opportunity for more powerful 1st person coverage and often means we get a large space in the magazine or newspaper. For this we work with London based clinics to send the journalists for free of charge trials.

Other areas of involvement are helping with photo-shoots, meeting journalists, writing copy, aiding marketing with campaign ideas, setting up case studies for PR use, sending the press coverage to all necessary parties once it’s published, creating books for press such as the Syneron-Candela Little Black Book of Laser Hair Removal and se-curing and writing any national advertising in consumer press.

Q. You mentioned case studies; can you tell us more about these?A. Case studies offer us a far better opportunity for not only more powerful coverage but a bigger space editorially. The critical part of us using a case study is that they must not have been seen or used anywhere else before the publication uses them. Every title wants this exclusively and they must be UK based with a Dr behind the treatment. The before and after pictures must be taken in exactly the same light and place and mustn’t be retouched of course! Case studies are especially important when we launch a new device.

EDITION 16 // SYNERON CANDELA NEWSLETTER // 8

Page 9: Syneron Candela Newsletter - October 2014

Q. Do you hold press launches?A. Yes, but only if we have something really exciting to talk about as journalists are invited to so many events and are pretty choosy whether to go or not! Something that works very well for Syneron-Candela is joining in on our TG PR Beauty Events which we hold twice a year. This is where many of our clients come together in one all day press event. Journalists then have the opportunity to ‘shop’ the room for products and treatment ideas to fill their stories. We often have experts on hand for them to chat to, and for Syneron-Candela we offer trials of treatments then and there. The last one we held was at PHI Clinic, Harley St, so we were able to use treatment rooms to demonstrate Vbeam and VelaShape III whilst chatting to journalists about Gentle-Laser in the main room.

Q. What’s the most powerful newspaper to get coverage in?A. I’d say it is probably the Daily Mail or the Mail on Sunday. The target audience is perfect and the circulation (no. people who buy the paper) is very high.

Q. What is your top trick for getting coverage?A. Oooh my trade secrets…..?! Well, without doubt it is to creatively name treat-ments and if a device treats more than just one area, it works well to name all the treatment areas. For example, when we launched VelaShape III to press we named four areas: The Tummy Tamer; The Waist Cincher; The Pertiliser and The Thigh Trimmer. It engaged with the press who then asked to try out which ever area they fancied trying!

We are often reactive to trends too. The thigh gap was widely written about and so we created the ‘The Thigh Gap’ VelaShape treatment which the Daily Mail is currently testing out using three people for 1st person reviews.

Q. What are the benefits of all the coverage you get for our UK Clinics?A. Well, there are lots actually, but here’s the main two! 1. Using the Coverage to Promote the Device in your Clinic: We have created a website dedicated to showcasing all the coverage achieved for each device www.syneronpr.com You can have this loaded on an iPad for use in your reception or if you’d like jpegs of any piece simply email us at True Grace PR [email protected]. Whilst they can’t be used for advertising purposes feel free to print out and display in your clinic.2. Driving New Patients to your Clinic Door: Often the resulting coverage features the website for consumers to go to in order to find their local clinic.

Q. Can other clinics use your press releases?A. Yes, they can. If they are looking to get local press coverage for a treatment they are more than welcome to swap our contact details for theirs on our press materials.

All they then need to do is print it out and mail to their local journalists perhaps with an invite to try out a treatment in return for the editorial review.

Do you offer PR services for other clinics?Sometimes, yes, but there would be a fee involved for a clinic campaign and we don’t do projects for less than 2-3 months at a time.

Q. Lastly, we’d love to know what the best piece of coverage you achieved for Syneron-Candela is!A. How do I choose! Well I pick two…. A full page in Marie Claire on GentleLaser and getting into the Tatler Cosmetic Surgery Guide 3 years running with various treatments!

Dr Tapan Patel will be presenting the lastest device from Syneron Candela - PicoWay® Dual Wavelength Picosecond Laser for Tattoo Removal and Treatment of Pigmented Lesions.

The PicoWay® device has received CE Mark indication to treat tattoos of all types and colours as well as pigmented lesions on any skin type. PicoWay is a new and innovative dual wavelength device, with 532nm and 1064nm wavelengths, which utilises Syneron’s proprietary PicoWay technology to deliver energy to the skin using pulses which are trillionths of a second, known as picosecond pulses. This means PicoWay has the shortest picosecond pulse duration and the highest peak power of any device on the market today. PicoWay’s high peak power and ultra-short pulse duration enables a unique mode of action which creates the strongest photo-mechanical impact to break up the tattoo ink or pigmentation. This revolutionary PicoWay technology is integrated into a proven, reliable Candela® platform which ensures superior performance and low cost of ownership.

We are also represented on the non-surgical workshop on the Saturday at 14:40 - Dr John Quinn will be discussing Peri-Ocular rejuvenation and improvement of skin laxity using SublativeTM Radiofrequency.

Dr Quinn will talk about his experiences using fractional laser to treat patients that present with concerns of wrinkles, puffiness and loss of laxity around the eye. Speaking from personal experience of using the Syneron eTwo device he will explain why this application is his treatment of choice. Bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy has been shown to improve mild rhytids, skin texture, skin tightening and skin smoothness with little downtime and rapid healing. The SublativeTM procedure produces tiny areas of thermal injury in a fraxinated pattern where the undamaged tissue aids in a rapid healing process. This results in increased collagen production, greater elasticity, minimal epidermal damage and quick recovery.

One significant benefit provided by RF energy is the ability to work in close proximity to the eyes without requiring conventional eye protection as the RF energy does not penetrate beyond the thin layer of natural fluid covering the eye surface.
