FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 2, 2018
Our Advent parish mission begins today. We are happy to welcome back Fr. Michael Sullivan, a member of the Au-gustinian Preaching Apostolate, who had previously visited St. John’s in the 1990s. There will be a mission hour each evening at 7:00pm in the church on Sunday, December 2; Monday, December 3; Tuesday, December 4; and Wednes-day, December 5. In addition, Fr. Michael will celebrate a 9:00am Mass on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morn-ings this week. The sacrament of Penance will be available on Monday evening following the mission hour. I am very grateful to everyone who has committed to assist with various aspects of the mission; if you have any ques-tions about what that entails, please see me today. Here’s a bit about Fr. Michael (from the Augustinian’s website): Father Michael P. Sullivan, O.S.A., was born in New York City. He received a bachelor's degree from Villanova University and his master's in theology from Augustinian College. Father Sullivan did graduate work at the Catholic University of America and also re-ceived a master's degree in counseling from St. John's University. Ordained at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Con-ception in Washington, DC, he spent eight years in parish ministry. Father Sullivan served as a pastor in the Diocese of Albany and as pastor of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, the parish of his youth in New York City. He was instrumental in establishing the Marriage En-counter movement in the Delaware Valley and was subsequently appointed to full-time retreat work and parish renewal preaching. Please make every effort to make as many of the mission hours as you are able; even better, invite a family member or a friend who could use a spiritual boost!
+ + + Over the next few weeks, we will be offering two identical training sessions for parishioners who have committed to serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. If this is something you are interested in learning more about, please let me know; the sessions will each be about 40-45 minutes in length.
+ + + We have a faithful corps of ushers who assist each week with various tasks at Mass, including the taking of the collec-tion. While some Masses are well covered, others are hit and miss, so to speak. Early in the new year, I’d like to see if we can’t build up the numbers of this faithful group. In the meantime, with Christmas not too far off, I would like to be sure that each of our eight Masses is accounted for. To that end, there is a website at which you can sign up to assist, whether you’re a regular usher or not. The link to the website is on the homepage of the parish website (www.sjegoshen.org), as well as on our Facebook page.

Sacrament of Baptism The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first and second Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Couples who are awaiting the birth of a child are invited to contact the par-ish office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests.
Sacrament of the Sick
The sacrament of the sick is available to anyone who is acutely or chronically ill, or suffering the effects of age. Please speak with one of the priests.

Saturday , December 8, i s THE SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, a holy day of obligation. Mass will be celebrated at on Friday, December 7 at 7:00pm and on Sat-urday at 9:00am and 11:00am.
The Knights of Columbus will meet on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 7:30pm in the rectory meeting room.
This Friday, December 7 is the First Friday of the month. Confessions will be heard Thursday, December 6 from 4:00 to 4:30pm. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after the 6:30am Mass and continue until Saturday morning at 7:45am. Remember: the Blessed Sacrament should

The Catholic Daughters Court Genevieve Walsh #918 will host their next meeting in the parish house on Sunday, December 9, 2018 between the hours of 11:00am and 2:00pm for our current members. ST. JOHN’S GIVING TREE
The Giving Tree will be in the Church from November 23rd through December 2. During this time you may take the ornaments and purchase the gift(s) written on the tag. There will be more than one gift written on the tag you may purchase one or more, whichever you are comfortable with. All gifts need to be returned no later than Sunday, December 9 to the Church. Please attach the or-nament securely to the gift with the information side up. They are being distributed first thing Mon-day morning. As always, thank you so much for your generosity and support. So that our nation and world may accept this truth, conform to God’s laws and protect our unborn brothers and sisters… Join in unity of prayer across America and the entire world to restore LIFE, FAITH, FAMILY & PEACE.
