The schedule calls for games to be rolled on Monday and Friday nights of each week, a team playing one home game each week and one or two games on a foreign alley. The presence of so many of tho women of the community -was an inspiring sight to the evangelist and spurred him on to do bis very best in appealing to them to live tho Christian life. After a brief song service, during which "Tho Lights of Home" was sung by the choir, tho Rev. Mr. Evarts read a portion of the story of the betrothal of Rebokah to Isaac as recorded in the 24th chapter of Genesis. In com- menting on the story the speaker spoke of the marvelous love of woman far excelling that of men. He also remarked that it would be a good thing for people to follow tho example of prayer in this chapter, and that there would be fewer, unhappy mar- riages and fewer divorces if parents prayed about their sons and daugh- ters In matters of "love and matri- mony. Gen. 24:68, and was taken \o apply to the soul's relation to Christ. Mr. Evarts Baid he could understand how a man might trifle with the affections of a woman, or a woman with those of a man, but he could not understand how any woman could trifle with the appeal of Christ for tho love of her heart. First of all, said he, woman should give her life to Christ because of the great influence sho exercises over men. "The women of a commun- ity hold in their hands th.e moral life and standards of that community, and they can drag it down or lift It up. Men will rise or fall according to the standards set by women." He illus- trated his point by. telllngof a drunk- en husband who was won to Christ by the uncomplaining love of his wife, and hdw he becamo an honored man in his city. Tho second reason for a woman giving her. heart to Christ Is that the gospel of Jesus has done so much in lifting womanhood and bring- ing her Into her rightful place along- side of men. Apart from that gospel, woman'B place is menial and debased. The last reason for following Christ waa that a woman is lost who saya "No!" to Him. Regardless of social standing, education, of wealth, a woman's destiny is determined by her acceptance or rejection of the Savior. jrha-j»«-^ir-wsafl--eenc4«ded^y-two-i lustrations of unusual vividness. To bim has been erected a monument which pictures in marble his rescuing the child. Every Sum. day there comes to that cemetery a woman, the baby now grown up. and casting herself at. the feet of the statue she weeps her gratitude to the man who saved her life. The other story waa of a young woman from a home of great wealth and culture who waa 'forced by her father to choose between Jesus and her home. She chose to go the way of the cross and by her • sacrifice she won her parents to her Lord. The church was filled at the even- ing servic* Before ,tho • hour for opening the choir began Its singing. The audience responded most heartily to tho leadership. Two special fea- tures marked the music of tho even- ing. The Sunbeam choir of Emmanuel church sang an old gospel song, "Bring Them In," following which Frances Hawley, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hawley, sang as a solo, "Shine 'Just Where You Are." her voice ringing out clearly and sweetly in tho large church. Just before the sermon the Rev. G. M. Gor- don sang "The Prodigal," the choir as- sisting in tho refrain of "Back to my Faher and Home." This is a uong that girps tho heart as few songs do. The subject of the sermon was "Ye Must Be norn'Again." 'Earnestly did tho speaker plead with the audience to give their lives to God, to be pre- pared for tho inevitable day of reck- 117 toning which none may escape By argument and by illustration ho pressed home the truth. At tho close, when tho invitation was given, there were several who came forward, there- by Indicating their desire to Hvo the Christian life. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander are expect- ed to come this week, and with them Mr. Barraclough, pianist for the Chap- man party. Later Mr. Naffzgar will como for one day. He is ono of the great gospel soloists in the world to- day and Amsterdam will be provided a treat which is Beldom had. afternoon.

In commenting on the story the speaker spoke of the marvelous love of woman far excelling that of men. He also remarked that it would be a good thing for people to follow tho example of prayer in this chapter, and that there would be fewer, unhappy marriages and fewer divorces if parents prayed about their sons and daughters In matters of "love and matrimony.

Joe Neville, Pa'ylng With All Colleglates, Is 8tar Attraction at Y. M. C. A. Gymnasium. The lovers of the game of basketball

were given a rare treat Saturday evening when "Joe" Neville, the football Idol of Yale, made his debut before Amsterdam fans on the "Y" gymnasium floor. The final score was 32 to 24 but at no time until the ringing of the final bell was the outcome cer--taln. The ball travelled up and down tho court.- first one team scoring then the otfier, in a seesaw manner. The college men started the game with luch "pep" that It was some time before the High school lads got going but by fast play and team work they finally overcame their opponents' lead only to be beaten out In the last few minutes of play when the attacks of Neville and Clarke found the net to good advantage. fc Clark, of the colleglates, took the honors in the s.coring,rx)lumixJiaylng a total of sixte6n points to-his credit. was, "Wilt thou go with this Man?' Gen. "The women of a community hold in their hands th.e moral life and standards of that community, and they can drag it down or lift It up. Men will rise or fall according to the standards set by women." He illustrated his point by. telllngof a drunken husband who was won to Christ by the uncomplaining love of his wife, and hdw he becamo an honored man in his city. Tho second reason for a woman giving her. heart to Christ Is that the gospel of Jesus has done so much in lifting womanhood and bringing her Into her rightful place alongside of men. Apart from that gospel, woman'B place is menial and debased. The last reason for following Christ waa that a woman is lost who saya "No!" to Him. Regardless of social standing, education, of wealth, a woman's destiny is determined by her acceptance or rejection of the Savior.

was that of a fireman who gave hiB life In rescuing a baby from a "burning home.

The church was filled at the evening servic* Before ,tho • hour for opening the choir began Its singing. The audience responded most heartily to tho leadership. Two special features marked the music of tho evening. G. M. Gordon sang "The Prodigal," the choir assisting in tho refrain of "Back to my F a h e r and Home." This is a uong that girps tho heart as few songs do.

The subject of the sermon was "Ye Must Be norn'Again." 'Earnestly did tho speaker plead with the audience to give their lives to God, to be prepared for tho inevitable day of reck-

117 toning which none may escape By argument and by illustration ho pressed home the truth. At tho close, when tho invitation was given, there were several who came forward, thereby Indicating their desire to Hvo the Christian life.

Mr. and Mrs. Alexander are expected to come this week, and with them Mr. Barraclough, pianist for the Chapman party. Later Mr. Naffzgar will como for one day. He is ono of the great gospel soloists in the world today and Amsterdam will be provided a treat which is Beldom had. Definite-announcements of these special speakers and services will'be made at a later date. - *
