Anderson Independent Mail Donates
Newspaper Rack that Appeared in
Radio Movie
We were thrilled when Ben Davis, Sr., Director of Newspaper Operations at the Anderson
Independent Mail, contacted us to tell us that they were cleaning out a warehouse and came
across the newspaper rack that was used in the Radio movie. They cleaned it and verified that
it was the same one (it appears in the opening sequences of the film). The Independent Mail
offered to donate the rack to the school, along with the “Radio” special edition section from
the October 2003 paper. We thank Mr. Davis and AIM for thinking of us! We will find a
special place for this piece of memorabilia!

AnMed Presents TLH with
Outstanding Participation Award T. L. Hanna has once again received the AnMed Blood Center’s Outstanding Participation
award. Hanna students, faculty and parents exceeded all other high schools in the area of SC
served by the AnMed Blood Center in blood donations during the current school year. Two
blood drives were held at Hanna this year. The first one was in December and the second
was in March. Susan Dyar, anatomy/physiology and biology teacher, organized the drives
and accepted the award for TL Hanna at the Blood Center’s annual blood donor appreciation
dinner on April 30. Students who have donated blood at least three times in their lives prior
to May 8 will be awarded a red cord on awards night to be worn at graduation. If students
who are seventeen or older are unable to donate blood because they don’t meet the physical
requirements, they may have others donate on their behalf. Parents and other family members
are always welcome and encouraged to donate blood on our blood drive days.

2015 Gatsby Day Students taking English III this year had the opportunity to participate in Gatsby Day on
Friday, April 24. After changing into 1920s attire, students assembled in the lecture hall where
they grouped themselves for photographs by Crafts, the yearbook staff, and/or journalism
students. Some of these pictures will be on the website, some on the Buzzline, and some will
appear in the yearbook next year. Students learned to do the Charleston, a popular dance
during the Jazz Age. After pictures and dancing, students went on a scavenger hunt
throughout the school. Student groups had clues to characters and places in the book that
they then had to relate to personnel and places at Hanna. Photo evidence was submitted to
English III teachers, and the scavenger hunt winners will be determined soon. The festivities
culminated with a Gatsby party in the library. The reference section of the library was
painstakingly decorated to resemble Jay Gatsby’s “…blue gardens [where] men and girls came
and went like moths,” complete with “. . . the premature moon, produced like the supper, no
doubt, out of a caterer’s basket.” The revelers were treated to a feast catered and served by
Mrs. Johnson’s Anderson 5 Career Campus Culinary Arts students. After enjoying the catered
meal, students voted on the best costumes for each class period. Prizes were awarded to the
best male and best female costume. In addition, a dance contest was held. English III teachers
chose the best male and female dancers each block, and they also received prizes. The day
ended with exhausted students and teachers.

TLH Girls’ Soccer Celebrates Senior
Night, Continues Playoffs Tonight!
Coach Ansley Pendergrass with TLH Girls’ Soccer Seniors –
Meredith Parker, Madison Painter, Margaret McElwee, and
Madison Anderson
TLH Girls’ Soccer team has been on a roll, racking up another region championship! Come
out tonight and watch the girls as they continue in the playoffs (at home at 6:00 pm)! Seniors
were honored during Senior Night for their contributions to the team. See pictures above and
below!

Track and Field from Coach Brent
Jackson The girls and boys did a great job at the Region Track and Field meet. The girls are Region
Champs, first time since 2001! The boys were runner up to a strong Hillcrest team. Both boys
and girls fought hard both days. Attached are the top results from the meet. Also all the
results can be found at http://sc.milesplit.com/meets/204300-region-1-
4a#.VUN7WdLBzGd. All athletes that finished in the top 5 in their events (including relays)
will move on to State Qualifier Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Spring Valley High School in
Columbia. Alternates on the relay teams practice, too.
ALL Region (You must win the event to be All-Region)
Cashay Johnson made All-Region in the shot and discus. We will have to go back in
the record books to see when the last time was that we had the same girl win the
shot and discus - very impressive and great way for her to go out!
Kamiya Dendy made All-Region in the High Jump - very impressive for this being her
first year and only a 7th grader!
Brandon Peterson defended his All-Region title in the high jump this year by clearing
6’4” - great way for him to go out as a senior as well.
Khloe Saunders won the girls’ pole vault by clearing 7’6”. Khloe did great, along
with the other girls, especially since this was their first year vaulting.
4x800 Girls Team made All-Region. The team consisted of Kate Martin, Melea
Sangl, Caroline Tolly, and Paige Mower. This group of girls has come very close to
breaking the Hanna school record and has a great shot of doing it at the State
Qualifier. It would be a great way to send Kate Martin out as she is the lone Senior
on the 4x8 team.
4x800 Boys Team made All-Region. The team consisted of Griff Tolly, Graham
Borsum, Jamey Dyar, and Alex Cothran. Griff Tolly is the lone Senior on this team,
too, and it was a great way to send him out as well.
The Future is Bright
We had a lot of our younger kids compete and score for us at the Region meet. We also had
some great performances in the JV events, as well, on the first day of Region. The future is
definitely bright for the girls’ and boys’ teams.
Practice:
Only athletes that qualified for State Qualifier will practice. All other athletes need to turn in
their uniforms. They should make sure it is in a plastic bag with their names on the
bags. They can turn in their uniforms in to Coach Aman at Hanna, Coach King at Glenview,
or Coach Jackson at McCants.
Banquet
A reminder that the banquet will be Thursday, May 14, starting at 6:30 in the mall area at
Hanna – more details to come.
TLH Boys’ Golf
(L to R) Brady Cox, Coleman Farrow, Jake Miller,
Kameron Rumsey, Jon-Michael Kubu, Graham Farmer,
and Coach John Rogers
Sounds awful, unless you're a golfer, but it's true: the TLH Varsity Boys’ Golf team went low
and finished on a high note on Thursday. The team shot a season low under par 143 and
defeated region opponents Greenwood (150, a winning score on most days) and Woodmont
(167). The Jackets were led by seniors Graham Farmer and Jon-Michael Kubu who both shot 1
under par 35's and like most golfers on a good day thought "we both left some shots out
there." Junior Coleman Farrow backed up a solid Easley Invitational performance (6 over 78
for 18 holes on a challenging course) with an even par round of 36, his personal best in varsity
competitive play. Farrow also recently carded his first hole-in-one over the weekend at
Brookstone Meadows in a practice session. Junior Brady Cox was just a one over par 37 to
ensure the season best round. The Jackets head into the 4A region 1A Tournament with an
overall record of 12 - 3 and are 10 - 1 in their sub-Region. With Monday's 36 hole Region
Tournament also being held at Bonnie Brae the Jackets like their chances to advance to the
Upperstate May 11 and perhaps the State Tournament May 18-19 at Furman University.
TLH Boys’ Soccer Beats Westside in
Overtime In the first round of the Class AAAA soccer playoff game, T. L. Hanna beat Westside 4-2 in
overtime at Fraser Field. Goals were scored by Jay Lummus, Holden Cayelli (2), and Rivers
Cathey. Schenk finished with nine saves. TLH will play Mauldin (13-4) this Thursday at home.
The Mavericks beat Fort Mill 4-1 to advance to the second round.

2015 SENIOR GRADUATION
INFORMATION
We are looking forward to a wonderful graduation ceremony at Bon Secours Wellness Arena
(BSWA) in Greenville on May 23, 2015, and we know that Seniors and their parents are
excited about the big day. There are a number of points that are key to making graduation
the DIGNIFIED and happy event that all students deserve. Our goal is to make this a time of
respectful celebration so that everyone may have his or her individual moment to be
recognized.
Seniors must attend all three graduation practices and Awards Night – the roll will be checked.
NO EXCEPTIONS! Any Senior who is not in attendance at each practice for the entire time
will NOT be allowed to take part in graduation. Mrs. Hilton is the only one who can excuse
any absences from practices. Appropriate school dress is expected, and you must wear your
school ID. No visitors are permitted at practice, including children. We will give out many
important items during practices. You must have your school ID to receive these.
Practices at Hanna will begin at 8:15 a.m. and last as long as necessary. If we get cooperation
from the senior class, we can be finished by about 11:00 am. Being tardy to practice will just
prolong the length of practice for everyone. Please note that having to go to work is not an
acceptable excuse to leave practice early.
We will practice at BSWA on Friday, May 22. All seniors will ride Anderson School District
Five School buses to Greenville for this practice. We will meet in the mall area at 7:45 a.m.
and attendance will be taken on the bus at 8:00 a.m. If a student misses the bus, this will
result in an unexcused absence, which may result in the loss of the privilege of marching at
graduation.
Some Seniors will have to clear obligations with various teachers and/or the school financial
office before they can get diplomas. Names of those who have outstanding fees will be called
out each day of practice. Any Senior who does not clear all obligations by Tuesday, May 19 at
8:15 am, will have his/her diploma removed from the diploma cover and held in the office
until all monies are paid. There will be long lines at that time, so Seniors should clear fees
EARLY! Also, don’t forget that we have practice on May 20 and May 21 at TLH, and on May
22 at BSWA. GRADUATION is on the May 23.
GRADUATION – May 23
Graduation ceremonies begin at 3:30 p.m. - whether or not any Senior and his/her guests are
there! For graduation, all Seniors need to report to the VIP area of the BSWA NO LATER
THAN 2:00! Traffic will be very congested, so plan to ARRIVE EARLY. Parking is available in
the parking garage beside the BSWA and costs $5. Be sure to bring your cap, gown, and
tassel. You should be dressed appropriately for graduation. If you choose to dress
inappropriately, you will not be allowed to march, and you will have to pick up your
diploma at the school on Tuesday, May 26. Appropriate dress is:
Men – dark trousers (navy or black) ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS; dark dress shoes (absolutely no
tennis shoes or flip-flops), dark socks, white shirts, dark necktie or bowtie, cap, gown, tassel.
Women – black dresses or black dress pants and black blouse, black low-heeled shoes, cap,
gown, and tassel. Absolutely no tennis shoes or flip-flops of any kind!
At the BSWA, Seniors will enter through the VIP Doors and check in at the designated table.
They will line up in appropriate lines. Teachers will take attendance and check dress code at
2:45 pm. Junior Marshals will lead Seniors into the ceremony at the appropriate time. At the
end of the ceremony, Junior Marshals will lead Seniors out.
***Please let your family and friends know that it is our desire that the graduation ceremony
be one that is dignified and appropriate as we honor our seniors. We respectfully request that
those who are invited to this ceremony refrain from outbursts, use of noisemakers, and any
other activities that may disrupt the ceremony. Law enforcement will remove any guests who
violate this policy
Crafts Photography will be taking photographs of those who purchase the service ahead of
time. Flyers will be given out at graduation practice.
Creative Video will also be taping the entire graduation ceremony. They will sell these videos
for $25 on the day of graduation and $30 afterwards. Order forms will be available during
this Senior Meeting and at Bon Secours the day of graduation.
