LENT SEASON

Lent is a season of self-examination leading up to Easter. When John and Charles Wesley gathered with their Christian friends at Oxford University in the 1720’s, they developed questions to test one another faithfulness. Perhaps, each of us would be wise to take such a test this Lenten Season.

1. Am I, consciously or unconsciously, creating the impression that I am a better person than I really am? In other words, am I a hypocrite?

2. Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate?

3. Do I tell other people what was told to me in confidence?

4. Can I be trusted?

5. Am I a slave to fashion, friends, fads, work, or habits?

6. Am I self-conscious, self-pitying, or do I justify my actions even when I am wrong?

7. Did I live today according to Bible precepts?

8. Did I allow God’s Word to speak to me today by reading the Bible?

9. Am I enjoying prayer?

10. When did I last speak to someone else about my Christian faith?

11. Are there contacts I make for the sake of business and entertainment only or do I minister Christ to everyone for the sake of God?

12. Do I pray about the money I spend?

13. Do I go to bed on time and do I get up on time?

14. Do I knowingly disobey God in anything?

15. Do I insist upon doing something about which my conscience is uneasy?

16. Am I defeated in any part of my life?

17. Am I jealous, impure, critical, touchy, irritable, or distrustful?

18. How do I spend my spare time and do my spare-time activities honor God?

19. Am I proud?

20. Do I thank God that I am not as other people and think myself more significant than other people?

21. Is there anyone whom I fear, hate, resent, or criticize? If so, what am I doing about it?

22. Do I grumble and complain easily and often?

23. Is Christ real to me so that I do all that I do for His glory?
