Today’s Matchup“4 Downs” with the Blue Hose

1 - Presbyterian is seeking its first road win of the 2015 season, as the Blue Hose are 0-4 away from Clinton this year. PC is also in search of its first-ever win at Williams Stadium, where the Blue Hose are 0-4 all-time. Liberty has won six straight meetings with PC overall, marking the Flames’ longest active winning streak against a Big South opponent and improving the Flames’ all-time record against the Blue Hose to 8-4.

2 - Presbyterian is aiming for just its second vic-tory over Liberty in the last 30 seasons. The Blue Hose upset Liberty 31-28 on Nov. 1, 2008 in Clin-ton, S.C. PC has posted two winning seasons at the FCS level, going 6-5 in both 2007 and 2014.

3 - PC’s defensive unit is headlined by senior line-backer Donelle Williams, who ranks third in Big South history with 372 career tackles. Williams has tallied 28 career stops against the Flames, including 18 in 2011. The Blue Hose are the lone remaining winless team in Big South play at 0-3. However, PC has lost its three conference games by a total of 14 points and is allowing just 16.0 ppg in league play.

4 - No Presbyterian running back had ever re-corded more than four 100-yard rushing games in a season prior to this year. Sophomore Darrell Bridges has notched a program-record five 100-yard games in 2015 and needs just 56 yards to break the PC single-season record of 910.

Last Meeting with Presbyterian

Nov. 1, 2014Liberty 28, Presbyterian 7Clinton, S.C. (Bailey Memorial Stadium)

• Despite some uncharacteristic early November snowfall in Clinton, S.C., the Flames recorded their sixth consecutive head-to-head win over the Blue Hose.

• Josh Woodrum threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while running for another score.

• Darrin Peterson was Woodrum’s primary target, hauling in seven receptions for 156 yards and a TD.

• D.J. Abnar grinded out 83 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries for the Flames.

• Liberty only outgained PC, 375-323, but held the Blue Hose scoreless until the fourth quarter due in large part to four interceptions of Heys Mc-Math.

• Jacob Hagen notched two of the Flames’ inter-ceptions, and Avery James picked off a pass not far from his hometown of Duncan, S.C.

Military Appreciation Day

• Saturday’s game will mark the sixth annual Mili-tary Appreciation Day at Williams Stadium. Since 2010, Liberty has designated a November home game near Veterans Day as Military Appreciation Day.

• One of the day’s biggest highlights is the award-ing of the George Rogers Champion of Freedom Award, named after World War II veteran George Rogers.

• Previous honorees include George Rogers (2010), Steve Bozeman (2011), Tim Lee (2012), Clebe McClary (2013) and Oliver North (2014).

• This year’s George Rogers Champion of Freedom Award winner is U.S. Army Major Michael Dona-hue.

• On the field, Liberty’s football team is 5-0 on Mil-itary Appreciation Day.

Nasty in November

• Liberty is 11-1 in November under Head Coach Turner Gill. The Flames’ November 2014 was highlighted by a win over No. 2/1 Coastal Caroli-na and an FCS Playoff victory at James Madison.

• Below are the top 5 FCS teams in November during the past three seasons:

1) Eastern Washington 10-0 2T) Liberty and Northern Iowa 11-1 4) Harvard 10-1 5) North Dakota State 9-1

Milestone Watch1/3/64 - Darrin Peterson’s next touchdown re-

ception will be the 27th of his career, giving him sole possession of Liberty’s career record. He is also just 3 catches shy of 200 for his career and 64 receiving yards shy of 3,000. Peterson would become the first receiver in Liberty and Big South Conference history to reach either of those mile-stones.

2a - John Lunsford needs 2 extra points to break the Liberty career record of 142 extra points made, held by Phillip Harrelson (1995-98).

2b - Chima Uzowihe needs 2 sacks to break the Big South single-season record of 9.5 sacks, set by former teammate Toby Onyechi in 2014.

4 - Chris Turner has tallied three interceptions during his freshman season. His next pick will make him the first Liberty freshman with four in-terceptions in a season since Randall State had four as a freshman in 1998.

155/386 - Josh Woodrum is 155 passing yards away from breaking the Big South career passing record of 9,768 yards, held by Charleston South-ern’s Collin Drafts. A huge 386-yard day would enable Woodrum to reach the 10,000-passing yard milestone.

A Liberty Win Would ...• Improve the Flames’ record at Williams Stadium

to 4-0 this season and 18-5 under Turner Gill.• Boost the Flames’ record in November contests

to 12-1 under Turner Gill.• Push the Flames’ all-time record in Big South

Conference games to 48-18.• Mark the Flames’ seventh straight win over Pres-

byterian overall and their fifth straight victory over the Blue Hose at Williams Stadium, boosting their all-time record against PC to 9-4.

• Give the Flames back-to-back wins for the first time in 2015.

• Enable the Flames to avoid suffering their first season with three or more conference losses since 2005.

• Boost the Flames’ all-time record at Williams Sta-dium to 104-45.

Quick Hitters• The Flames dropped out of both FCS national

polls on Oct. 19, after having been ranked inside the Top 25 for nine straight weeks, dating back to the 2014 season.

• Liberty was ranked No. 10 in both FCS polls on Sept. 21, marking the Flames’ highest national ranking since 1990.

• The Flames’ 41-33 win at Georgia State on Oct. 3 was the team’s fourth all-time victory over an FBS opponent and second in as many years. The Flames’ previous FBS wins came against Eastern Michigan (1989), Ball State (2010) and Appala-chian State (2014).

• After a 31-21 win over No. 8/7 Montana on Sept. 19, Liberty is 5-2 in its last seven meetings with FCS Top 25 teams. That stretch was highlighted by a 15-14 win at No. 2/1 Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22, 2014, the Flames’ first-ever victory over a No. 1 team in program history.

• The Flames have captured seven Big South titles in the last eight years. They are 38-8 in confer-ence games since the start of the 2007 season.

• The Flames are 47-10 in home games at Williams Stadium since the start of the 2006 season, in-cluding 3-0 in 2015.
