CAN I AFFORD IT?For many of our students, there will be a need to work while studying. Luckily at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast you can choose to study full-time, part-time and in some cases online or in the workplace, so you can fit both work and study into your life.

PAYMENT OPTIONS VET FEE-HELP VET FEE-HELP is available to assist eligible students studying higher level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to pay their tuition fees. Higher level VET qualifications are at the Diploma level and above. For a trial period, VET FEE-HELP will also be available for a limited number of Certificate IV qualifications. VET FEE-HELP can be used to pay all or part of an eligible student’s

tuition fees, but cannot be used for additional study costs such as accommodation or text books.

PAYMENT PLANPay your fees off while you study with an interest free student payment plan. This is available for courses over $500 on direct debit.

UPFRONT PAYMENTPay your fees upfront before commencing your studies - one less thing to worry about while you study.

EXPENSESWhen you decide to study, there will be expenses on top of your student fees. These could include text books or course related equipment such as steel capped safety boots or a stethoscope. TAFE Queensland Gold Coast can advise you of these extra expenses when you enrol.

LEARNING SUPPORTProvided by specialised teachers, get support in exam preparation, assignment writing, time management, making presentations and general study skills.

FACILITIES All locations are either located within walking distance to food and beverage outlets or have an on-site cafeteria. Parking is provided for no or minimal charge.

LIBRARYYou will have access to a range of online and hard copy resources at any of our libraries.

COUNSELLING Free and confidential counselling is available to assist and support you with personal, study or work-related issues and/or career guidance.

INTERNET/WIFIYou will have access to TAFE Queensland Gold Coast’s WiFi and student computers with internet access across all of our campuses.

SUPPORT Disability support is available, including locating and organising equipment and teacher liaison on your behalf. An Indigenous Student Support Officer is available to assist with various issues and to support you during your studies.

CAREER CAFÉHeld each semester, these give you the opportunity to meet with universities, the defence and police force and major employers to discuss your next steps in education and employment.

GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCEGovernment funding may be available to assist you with your studies, including a partially government funded place (the government pays some of your course fees). Other financial assistance includes: - Student Youth Allowance This is a means-tested payment for full-time students and Australian apprentices aged 16 to 24. - Rent AssistanceThis is a means-tested payment to help you pay your rent. - AbStudyHelps with costs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who are studying.

What does an employer really want from you as a job applicant? Aside from your industry relevant skills and training, many businesses are also looking for other key attributes when hiring new staff. The good news for TAFE Queensland Gold Coast graduates is, no matter what course you choose, whether it is plumbing, nursing or information technology, you will have the opportunity to learn the top four skills on the list.

Interpersonal and communication skills. Express your ideas clearly and confidently in speech and in writing. Your contributions to class discussions and time spent on written theory assessments will build these skills.

Our Southport location has recently had a $6 million refurbishment and offers vibrant spaces and advanced learning technologies including a refreshed customer service centre with touch screens for enquiries, contemporary new study zones, a refreshed and connected library and WiFi throughout so students can BYO devices. A dominant feature in the Gold Coast’s designated CBD, our Southport location is closely located to Australia Fair shopping centre, key services and public transport, including the new light rail which travels right past our front doors!

ASHMORE TRADES TRAINING CENTRE

This is the location where master craftsmanship is born and raised. Our newly renovated-for-purpose specialised facility is the new trades training hub of the Gold Coast. With industry standard learning technologies, you will perfect your craft nestled amongst the parkland setting and spacious grounds offered at this location. A relaxing atmosphere for students, the Trades Training Centre at Ashmore provides specialist delivery in automotive, building and construction, cabinet making, carpentry, competitive systems, electrotechnology, engineering and welding, horticulture, plumbing, shop-fitting and wet trades.

Located in the heart of the marine industry at Coomera, our specialised training facility is based on-site with the Gold Coast’s largest boat building employer, Riviera. Plumbing includes urban irrigation, drainage, metal roofing and cladding, mechanical services, roof plumbing, gas fitting and fire protection services. As an occupational health and safety officer, you will identify hazards, assess risks and put appropriate safety controls in place and provide advice about accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees. Traditionally, occupational health and safety officers have been employed in the manufacturing, construction, health and minerals industries.
