Provided the “Roadmap” to recovery, as laid out by the government, proceeds as planned, we should be able to resume meetings and rallies after July 12th. The situation in relation to the Swap is still anybody’s guess, as I believe large gatherings of people will still be off the agenda for quite some time. I have spoken with the President of Cooloola Classic Car Club, who is keen for the Car Show to go ahead. We both agree that a decision will have to be made soon to enable the planning and preparation that goes into both the Car Show and the Swap to commence. Hopefully the path forward will become clearer very soon. In recent weeks we have had membership enquiries from several potential new members. Some have cars that are ready to register and they want to join as soon as possible. The executive has decided, that under the circumstances, it is reasonable to allow them to join without the normal prerequisite attendance at two meetings or rallies. All being well we will meet them at rallies when we resume. Is everyone keeping busy? Noel, Ted and I, are putting the finishing touches to the stairs and handrails in the clubroom while also powering ahead with our current projects. I have joined the Vintage Morris Register and been blown away by the amount of information and support that is out there.

President’s Report

As I write this report things are starting to look more

positive for a resumption of club activities in the not too

distant future. Provided the “Roadmap” to recovery, as laid

out by the government, proceeds as planned, we should be

able to resume meetings and rallies after July 12th. The

situation in relation to the Swap is still anybody’s guess, as

I believe large gatherings of people will still be off the

agenda for quite some time. I have spoken with the

President of Cooloola Classic Car Club, who is keen for the

Car Show to go ahead. We both agree that a decision will

have to be made soon to enable the planning and

preparation that goes into both the Car Show and the Swap

to commence. Hopefully the path forward will become

clearer very soon.

In recent weeks we have had membership enquiries from

several potential new members. Some have cars that are

ready to register and they want to join as soon as possible.

The executive has decided, that under the circumstances, it

is reasonable to allow them to join without the normal

prerequisite attendance at two meetings or rallies. All being

well we will meet them at rallies when we resume.

Is everyone keeping busy? Noel, Ted and I, are putting the

finishing touches to the stairs and handrails in the clubroom

while also powering ahead with our current projects. I have

joined the Vintage Morris Register and been blown away

by the amount of information and support that is out there.

For example, in response to my enquiry about membership, I was informed that my

Morris was one of a batch of twelve that was dispatched to Australia in July of 1929 and

that it is now one of two known to be surviving. Also, within days of joining, I was

contacted by two other Australian members, introducing themselves and offering support

and advice. I know there are similar registers for other car makes, but this is the first time

I have joined such a group. If my experience is anything to go by, I would encourage

others to consider membership of relevant clubs or groups. What has everyone else been

doing? Until we can get together again, how about a few lines to Carol about your

project, for inclusion in the next newsletter.

Our Rally Directors, Maree and Rachel are very keen to get moving and as you will see in

this newsletter, have a couple of events planned and ready to go. Hope we can enjoy

another of your well planned rallies soon ladies.

I can’t think of anything else to report at present so I’ll close now, trusting that you are all

keeping safe and well occupied.

Cheers

Rob

Ted, Rob and Noel making the handrails at the clubrooms. Work in progress.

COVID-19 Ease of restrictions from 2 May 2020 – what that means for the use of

SIVS registered vehicles.

You are probably all aware some COVID-19 restrictions eased from 2 May 2020.

Following on from this announcement we received a few calls wondering if that means

we can use our SIVS registered vehicles again.

We thought it should be OK. As we haven’t had any further guidelines about this from

the Qld Historic Motoring Council we decided to seek an opinion through the Qld

Police Department.

At this stage all rallies (including impromptu rallies) and assemblies are still NOT

PERMITTED. There is no issue with driving your SIVS registered vehicle so long as

you abide by the regular SIVS registration guidelines ie. You can drive your SIVS

registered vehicle on a test run within the 15km radius.

(statement extracted from the Qld Transport Departments Special Interest Vehicle Concession Scheme guide (SIVS) Conditions and restrictions)

Road testing within a 15km radius from the place where the vehicle is garaged or is being repaired. The purpose of the travel must be to road test the vehicle following repair or restoration, or for general vehicle maintenance and not for any other purpose. This does not include use as an everyday means of transport. A passenger may travel in your vehicle to assist with road testing—only if your vehicle can legally carry passengers. A special interest vehicle must not be used for:

General purposes - for example, to commute to and from the registered operator's place of employment, going shopping etc

More COVID-19 news. Have heard some ladies have reignited

their passion for knitting since they

are more isolated due to the

COVID-19 restrictions.

Not sure what they have planned to

knit.

One project I have heard about –

(No, I haven’t done any knitting. I’m

enjoying the great outdoors – busy

attacking weeds, weeds and more

weeds.) NB. I was reminded - Husbands probably

don’t knit, but they know how to tie knots.

GHAC RALLY NEWS (dates to be confirmed - pending COVID-19 regulations) from Maree and Rachel

Looking Forward in 2020 Freedom seems to be getting closer. The COVID-19 restrictions have dampened down our use of our

precious motor cars this year, but no doubt we will make up for time lost very soon.

We have three end of month Rally Days organized but the dates to be confirmed and will depend

upon the health restrictions being lifted. A big thank you to all our hosts and rally leaders below.

1. “Back to School Day” (our hosts Colin and Trish Boucher)

After talking with our President Rob, it was decided the First Car

Club Meeting will be a Saturday 8am Breakfast BBQ followed by

the Meeting at 9.30am.

Once we have checked out all the lovely cars and had a chat, we will

set out on a run down the Mary Valley Road to Kenilworth. Here we

can stop for a comfort break and you may wish to pick up something

from the bakery or cheese factory.

We will then set off to the highway and will exit onto the old Bruce highway. We are heading back to

Gympie and out to Trish and Colin’s ‘Old School House’ for a BBQ Lunch. BYO Food, Drinks,

Table and Chairs. Dress up if you like 😊

Address ‘The Old School House’ Grecian Bends Rd off Cedar Pocket Road via Gympie.

There is plenty of parking outside for our cars. The run will finish there when all the chatter has ceased.

Should be a fun day!

2.“Motorama” (our host for the day is Ron Southen)

Ron has offered to host a Motorama on his property at 384 Arborfive Road,

Glenwood (nr Needrie Rd).

We will meet at the Club House from 9am for a 9.30am start.

BYO morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Also, your tables, chairs

and shade.

We will have 4 Obstacle Courses and this should take up most of the day.

Come and Join us for some FUN event.

3. “Get out of Jail Free Run” (our hosts Heather and Graeme Davis)

If you are looking forward to the end of staying at home this promises to

be another great run.

Our rally leaders for the day will be Heather and Graeme Davis who

will meet us on the outskirts of Maryborough.

Further details to be advised closer to the time. Dress Ups encouraged 😊
