Women’s Committee of Fine Arts/ Mt. DoraScholarships in the amount of $1,000 for visual and performing arts students. Auditions are in April and an award luncheon is in May.Application Deadline is March 4th

• Rotary Club of Lake County Golden Triangle$500- $2,000 scholarships are available for seniors planning to attend a post- secondary institution and have applied to at least one college/university and taken the ACT or SAT. Criteria includes financial need, academic merit, character and extra-curricular activity. Deadline is Tuesday.

• Sun Trust/ Edgar P. and Nona B. McKinney Charitable Trust ScholarshipScholarship award amounts vary from $1,000 to $5,000 per year. Students will be notified if selected for an interview before April 28th.Deadline is March 31, 2017.

• Sun Trust/G.Roxy & Elizabeth C. Martin Charitable Trust ScholarshipScholarship award amounts vary from $1,000 to $5,000 per years. This is a separate application and seniors can apply and qualify for both of the Sun Trust Scholarships. If selected, interviews will be before April 28th.Deadline is March 31, 2017.

• The 2017 Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship Application is available in Guidance. The deadline is March 11, 2017.

• The Criterion Civic Club awards a $1000 scholarship to FIVE Lake County deserving minority students every year. Please see Team Guidance for details.

• Seniors, Please let Mrs. Croker know about your college acceptances and any scholarships you may have been awarded.

1999 - Colin Prescot and Andy Elson set a new hot air balloon endurance record when they had been aloft for 233 hours and 55 minutes. The two were in the process of trying to circumnavigate the Earth.

1999 - Nigeria returned to civilian rule when Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo became the country's first elected president since August of 1983.

2002 - In Boston, twenty people working at Logan International Airport were charged with lying to get their jobs or security badges.
