I was thinking about the weather the other day and how it was when I was in my twenties - now that’s going a way back, ha, ha! I would seek out the sun and lay in it for hours getting a tan. These days I hide in the shade and I don’t com- plain about the cooler weather. My grass is still green and my flower beds have never looked lovelier, so all in all I think the weather has been great. Well here we are, going into our 28th Guild year. Yes, the guild will be 28 years young come this November and still going strong. The program ladies have been very busy and have a wonderful year of speakers, trunk shows and workshops lined up that I know that you won’t want to miss. And let’s not for- get the Wednesday afternoon group. This group meets after the meeting to sew, chat, learn and share sew- ing tips. This group is great for the newbies and it is included in the membership. With all this rainy weather, I am sure that some of you probably had time to finish up some of your UFO’s, so I hope to see lots of show and tell in September. See you then

Welcome back everyone

Hope you had a wonderful summer despite the cool and rainy weather. I was thinking about the weather the other day and how it was when I was in my twenties - now that’s going a way back, ha, ha! I would seek out the sun and lay in it for hours getting a tan. These days I hide in the shade and I don’t com-plain about the cooler weather.

And let’s not for-get the Wednesday afternoon group. This group meets after the meeting to sew, chat, learn and share sew-ing tips. This group is great for the newbies and it is included in the membership.

With all this rainy weather, I am sure that some of you probably had time to finish up some of your UFO’s, so I hope to see lots of show and tell in September.

See you then

Now’s the time to fill out the membership form on this page and bring it to the September meet-ing along with your membership fee. Judi VanZant of the membership committee will take care of it for you or you can mail it to the address provided.

The Membership fee is one of the best bargains around. $40.00 for ten meetings per year—that’s $4.00 for each session of 3 hours of enjoyment—a presentation by an entertaining expert, show and tell by fellow quilters, coffee and a treat. In addition to that there are books on loan for free, Wednesday afternoon projects to take part in, a newsletter and best of all, lots of nice people to meet. What more could you ask for?!

Wednesday Afternoon Projects

The hall at St. Annes’ is available to the Guild Members in the afternoon following our monthly meeting. For the last four years we have been meeting as an informal group to share our ideas and quilting skills. As guild members you are welcome to attend one or all of these sessions. No registration is necessary and no cost is involved. This is a mentoring situation, not a workshop. Each participant supplies her/his own fabric and takes home her own project.

Bring a bag lunch, sewing machine and basic sewing supplies along with your choice of fabric and stay for the after-noon.

Ann will show us a sample of the Jelly Roll quilt, and talk about requirements, at our September meeting.

Maureen will show us the Tall Tree Wall Hanging at the October meeting, with instructions in the October newsletter.

The 2010 Winter/Spring line-up will be printed as soon as details are finalized.

We welcome Maureen O’Neill aboard to assist us with fresh ideas and talents. If anyone has a new idea or wishes to teach a class, we would be happy to hear from you. Hope everyone had a happy, healthy summer and managed to catch the sunny days (when they were around).

The Disappearing Nine Patch is a pattern that can be made in various size blocks, i.e. 5”, 6”. It takes approximately 1 metre of three different fabrics. The focus fabric should be a non-directional print, plus one dark and one light fabric. Left over fabric can be used for a border and/or binding.

For the 6” block the cutting is as follows:

Focus Fabric: cut 4 - 6” strips width of fabric (WOF) Dark or Light Fabric: cut 4 - 6” strips “WOF”Light or Dark Fabric cut 1 - 6” strip “WOF”

• Choosing the dark or light fabric for opposing blocks in the 9 patch is the sewer’s choice. It works either way.

From the Focus Fabric: cut 24 - 6” squares From the Dark/Light Fabric: cut 24 - 6” squares From the Light/Dark Fabric: cut 6 - 6” squares

The above instructions will create 6 Nine Patches. If one chooses to make 5” blocks, then the cutting will change to 5” strips and one will have to make 9 Nine Patches.

It is such a simple pattern, but the different choice of fabric makes them all look quite different. It works well with scraps as well.
