• Agree a working definition of basic literacy in an ESOL context and consider:– who are learners with basic literacy needs, – why have a course to specifically focus on this group of
learners
• Increase awareness of the experience and the needs of learners with basic literacy needs and how this impacts on teaching basic literacy in ESOL
• Have an understanding of the Teaching Basic Literacy course offers
