Dear readers, All the data relating to TECE building services and drainage systems are stored at produktdaten.tece.de, where it can be searched through a standard user interface. The product informa-tion can be collated into project- related specifications and exported in various formats, including GAEB.

Drawing up an individual specification for building services is generally complex and time-consuming. Data such as tender documentation, prices or drawings are stored in various sources and must first be laboriously sought out. The data once found frequently turns out to be no longer current. TECE has now made the drafting of project-specific specification docu-ments easier with its new product data-base.

TECElux on the market in three variants

Broad range

TECEprofil for prefabrication to your needs

New bathrooms at a stroke

The toilet terminal is designed to serve quite different target groups with its two entry-level versions and a high-end variant. There is a solution for the small budget just as much as for technically and visually challenging bathrooms.

The market launch of TECElux started in the summer, and a good number of toilet terminals have already been installed. Hans-Joachim Sahlmann, Sales Director at TECE: “We cannot say yet which of the versions available will turn out best. We are addressing three different strata of purchasers, and that appears to be the right strategy.” All three versions have a cistern and the characteristic glass front – design and functional element at the same time. The upper plate is easily re-moved exposing a generous opening for repair work. TECElux 100 is the inexpensive entry-level version for everyone excited by the design of the toilet terminal. The TECElux 200 variant also offers height adjustment. The terminal can be raised or lowered over a range of 8 cm with just a few actions. This design is of interest for housing asso-ciations, for instance, as the toilet can be adjusted to the needs of older tenants thanks to its height adjustment.

Comfort may be retrofitted

TECElux 400 is the right model for build-ers with a love of design and comfort. In addition to height adjustment, the high-

Renovations in Göttingen: pre- fabricated sanitary pre-walls speed up building work.

Daume GmbH from Duderstadt has com-mitted itself to house building and hence also to time and cost-optimized construc-

tion. The technical building equipment specialist developed a special process for a re-plumbing project being run by Städ-tische Wohnungsbau GmbH of Göttingen: the sanitary pre-walls are prefabricated in the company's own workshop and deliv-ered to the construction site just in time for installation. About 400 bathrooms have already been renovated using this process. Daume relies on the TECEprofil pre-wall system for this project.

end version is equipped with an electronic touch flush, an air filter system and addi-tional connections for power and water so that a washlet can be connected. Yet anyone purchasing one of the basic versions does not have to do without comfort forever: “The benefit of the two basic versions is that they can be upgrad-ed with further functions at any time. This

makes it easier to start with our system”, says the Sales Director. TECE has set up a special TECElux web-site for consumers. Interested builders can visit tecelux.tece.de to find out about the various functions, the equip-ment of the three variants and the design prizes the toilet terminal has won.

Where TECElux is not an option, but a flexible and universal module for the connection of a washlet is required, the washlet module could be the right solution. The module from the TECE-profil range allows the connection of the top models from both Duravit and Geberit. The great advantage of the module is its universality: The builder does not have to decide in favour of a particular washlet in the first fix phase. The elec-trical and water connections of the washlets on the market are not com-patible with all toilet modules for con-cealed installations. A TECE module does, however, keep most options open. Both the water connection and the power line are optimally positioned in the washlet module. Faulty or incor-rectly laid electrical and water connec-tions can therefore be easily avoided.

TECE has expanded its seminars – both in space and in content (see arti-cle on page 4). One of the new semi-nars is one on barrier-free building that has been held regularly in the new TECE Technikum in Emsdetten and in the TECE Academy premises in Wuppertal since the autumn. What is special about these events is the strong link between theory and prac-tice and the intensive exchange of knowledge in small groups. The semi-nar is designed for a maximum of 20 participants. The seminar is based on the standard DIN 18040 on construction of acces-sible buildings and its various require-ments in the public and private sec-tors. The participants will learn the role played by pre-wall technology in barrier-free bathroom design and the possibilities offered by Geronto mod-ules with electronic flushing technolo-gy. In addition, solutions for floor-level shower drainage will be presented. The seminar considers the process for the design of barrier-free bathrooms as well as the specification of materi-als. In the practical section, the par-ticipants can themselves install a pre-wall or the toilet electronics.

A brochure listing all the seminars can be requested from [email protected]

Three versions – one face: The characteristic glass front is the trademark of the toilet terminal.

TECEprofil comprises just three basic components and “is easy to work with”, according to Daume's project coordinator Christian Schadenberg. For him, the flexi-bility of the system is decisive, allowing production of the pre-walls according to the specified needs. The toilet and wash-basin modules, which are fitted in the walls ready for connection during the pre-fabrication process are also taken from the TECEprofil range.

Security through system components

TECEfloor in a high-bay warehouse

For heating installer Stefan Röwekamp, this project was all about flexibility: For three months, his fitters were ready and on call. The approx. 5000 m2 building floor area was split into seven building sections. As in a relay race, the three

single drains and shower boards ready for tiling. TECE puts the success down to its TECEdrainline shower channel in particu-lar. The stainless steel channels with their integral fall are hygienic and reliable.

A large range of drains and solutions for noise and fire protection ensure the good reputation of the TECE drainage system.

trades passed the baton on to each oth-er: For the reinforced concrete of the floor, the mesh reinforcement was first in-stalled. In the steel mesh, the Röwekamp fitters then laid the heating pipes. Finally, it was the turn of the concrete construc-tors. Each trade was dependent on the weather and the speed at which the other trades progressed.

Minimizing risks

For Stefan Röwekamp, construction pro-jects with these kinds of time pressures are quite common, but he is still pleased when everything runs smoothly. To avoid risks from the outset, he only works with systems he knows to be reliable. As a system, TECEfloor floor heating may only have been on the market since 2011, but

it is based on components that TECE has sold for many years. This is what gave Stefan Röwekamp the certainty he need-ed to use the system for the first time on such a scale in a construction project. The installation at Wahl & Co. confirms he was right to choose TECEfloor: “Very good quality at a fair price,” is the heating engi-neer's conclusion.

To quickly design the underfloor heat-ing for a detached house. To quickly convert from a supply temperature of 40°C to one of 35°C, because per-haps a heat pump may indeed be fea-sible. To optimise the design for price or comfort with the customer in his home. We imagined these challenges when we were developing our online calcu-lation system. The result of this devel-opment is TECEsmartfloor, a complete design for smaller building projects with a maximum of six distribution panels. You can use this to design the floor heating for a detached house in around twelve minutes. And within 24 hours we will send you a fixed offer for your project.A stock quotation? That was yester-day. You can draw up quotes for your customers tailored to their own needs. This enhances your competence in your customer's eyes if you can show during the briefing discussion – visual-ly on an iPad – what effects a greater or smaller distance between the pipes would have for the feed temperature or the price. In just five minutes you can change the calculation from 40°C to 35°C flow temperature.Try out our online costing solution without obligation. It is simple to re-quest your personal access code from smartfloor.tece.de. A video can help you with the first steps, and of course it is free to use.

Drainage system with a good reputation: TECEdrainline shower channels are hygienic and reliable.

In May this year, the revision of the German standard DIN 1988 was completed with DIN 1988-200 De-sign of drinking water installations and DIN 1988-300 Dimensioning of drinking water installations. Many technical and legal requirements have changed. TECE has had its field

sales force trained by the DVGW (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) so that it will continue to be a competent partner for its customers. A one-day workshop allowed participants to update their knowledge of potable wa-ter hygiene and potable water installation.

A number of providers have recently popped up in the market for bathroom drainage. However, it is TECE that en-joys the greatest confidence of the trade with its TECEdrainline shower channels. This was demonstrated by a survey run by the Querschiesser man-agement consultancy.

Which manufacturer has the greatest competence in floor-level showers? Quer-schiesser asked 2354 plumbers in Ger-many for its 2012 survey of trends. The result is unambiguous. At 21.1% TECE has its nose in front and has relegated even self-declared drainage specialists such as Aco (5.1 %) to lower positions. The interesting aspect here is that this result it true not only for tiled wet rooms, but covers the entire range of floor-level showers: Manufacturers of wet rooms such as Bette (4.4 %) and Kaldewei (3.0 %) were also listed. However, the greatest competence was ascribed overall to the providers of drainage channels,

Logistics specialist Wahl & Co. has signed up for sustainability and is heating its new high-bay warehouse with a heat pump and underfloor heating. Some 30,000 metres of TECEfloor heating pipe have been laid for this installation.

25 years of smart housing technology

It's about the future

TECE Technikum: Please try it out

TECE employees paused briefly one weekend in September to celebrate their Silver Jubilee.

A quarter of a century ago, Thomas Fehlings and his father Gerd Fehlings founded the company now known as TECE. They set new standards in heating systems connections with one of the first plastic composite pipe systems on the

TECE has extended its training centre in Emsdetten adding a 200 m2 seminar room equipped with workbenches and in-stallation units. The training provided here is not product training in the conventional sense, but rather interactive seminars that enable the seminar leader's tips and tricks to be tried out immediately on the workbench. Up to 20 people can take part in a practical seminar of this kind. The fact is that if you do something your-self, you not only understand it better, you also remember it. The greater focus on trade practice in the TECE training centre establishment is also reflected in the new name “TECE Technikum”. Seminar leader Michael Brinkschmidt: “New or changing standards for building service applications mean that the need for information and explanation is high. We should like to contribute to the correct use of our prod-ucts with the training opportunities we of-

fer.” With movable workbenches and also installation units that can be moved we can implement good installation tips straight away. Designs and tools are kept in the workbenches. These can be used for example to set up pre-walls with barrier-free toilet modules on the installation blocks.

Questions & Answers

What does Silver Line Quality (SLQ) mean for TECEfloor? The label indicates the high quality claims of TECE: all the components in our underfloor heating system have been carefully tested and matched to one another. SLQ thus also stands for 100 % compatibility of all parts.

TECElux is finished with a glass plate. Glass – that sounds fragile ...On the contrary, these plates are ex-tremely robust. The TECElux front is made from single-pane safety glass. This means that the panes are heat treated in a special process. This makes the TECElux glass particularly resistant to impacts.

How true are the ideas of some building owners that dirt can collect in the shower channel and allow germs to breed? The risk of this happening in the TECEdrainline channel is very low. The stainless steel body has no screws or slots where the dirt might be trapped. And stainless steel itself is an inher-ently hygienic material. Additionally, the channel has an fall inside so that no water can be left standing. The channel should be wiped out from time to time. The cover can easily be removed to permit this.

market. Further product innovations were to follow. The company grew steadily – nationally and internationally. Today TECE has some 1300 employees, 360 of whom in Germany. The headquarters in Emsdetten is continually being extended. This year alone, Production, Administra-tion and the Seminar Centre have been expanded. At the gala evening, Fehlings thanked all the staff for their commitment. They would be fully justified in taking pride in their achievements. But Fehlings does not indulge himself in the past. His view is always to the future. “I am not particularly interested in the past”, says TECE's boss. Only the future is important. Quite typically for TECE, the employees took an active role in the gala evening. Monika Weischer, Sales, and Klemens Reignault, Head of Property Management,

led the evening like professionals hosts. There were a few surprises for the boss, such as a model of the company site in chocolate and a glass dish designed joint-ly by all the departments.

Greater benefit through more focus on practical application: Training on mobile assembly units in TECE Technikum.

Thanks to the boss: Anne Reineke and host Monika Weischer present the glass dish.

Alongside barrier-free building, the new German Drinking Water Ordinance and the TECElux toilet terminal are the topics in TECE Technikum.
