AXIS 2 - IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE COUNTRYSIDE MAIN ACHIVEMENTS – EU 27 (2) Measure 214 Measure 212 Measure 211 Measure 221 Measure 226 Measure 215 Rural Development Programmes 2007-2013 AXIS 2 INFOGRAPHIC EAFRD Axis 2 aimed to improve the environment and the countryside, providing measures to protect and enhance natural resources, as well as preserving high value farming, forestry systems and cultural landscapes in Europe’s rural areas. The measure aimed to encourage farmers and other land managers to introduce or continuing to apply agricultural production methods compatible with the protection and improvement of the environments, the landscape and its features, natural resources, the soil and genetic diversity. Utilised Agricultural Area under agri-environmental support (2007) (3) : Supported agricultural land in other less-favoured areas or areas affected by specific handicaps: Supported agricultural land in mountain areas: Number of holdings supported: Number of holdings supported: Agricultural land that has been afforested: Supported area of damaged forests: Number of farm holdings receiving support: The measure aimed to prevent land abandonment in areas with handicaps (other than mountain areas) and supported activities that stimulate use of agriculture land, promote sustainable farming systems and maintain countryside. The measure provided financial support for afforestation of agricultural land that contributes to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, prevention of natural hazards and fires, and mitigate climate change. The measure granted payments to farmers in mountain areas to offset their additional costs incurred by continued use of agricultural land in these areas and prevent land abandonment. The measure supported activities in damaged forest areas necessary to restore and maintain their environmental and economic role. The measure provided financial support with the aim to encourage farmers to adopt high standards of animal husbandry which go beyond the relevant mandatory standards.
