Special Needs: ELL• English Language Learners (ELL) are students with limited

English proficiency.• These students generally speak a language other than

English at home.

• ELL students are protected by the Civil Rights Act, which requires schools to improve language deficiencies of students so that they may fully participate in the education system.

• Technology software programs with picture to text abilities can be effective in building an ELL students vocabulary.

• As many as 5 out of every 100 children in school may have ADHD. • Boys are three times more likely than girls to have AD/HD.

Proposed Technology• WYNN Wizard is a reading and writing software that is very

beneficial to those with auditory challenges, ELL, and ADHD. • This software program reads a scanned text out loud.

Within this program, there are many features that can be adjusted to each students needs. For example, the pace in which the text is read can be altered, the color of the background and text, the volume and tone of the voice reading the document, etc.

• A special feature that could really benefit an ELL student would be the option to have the definition and/or spelling of a word that they do not recognize read to them.

• This software program is $995 each.

http://www.sonicspot.com/audacity/audacity.gif

Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. This can be useful for ELL students. Sometimes it is difficult for students to write their responses but this does not necessarily mean they do not know the answer. This program will allow to record any answers/responses they have.

ConclusionIf I was given $5,000 to spend on anything I wanted in the mall, I would spend every single penny that I could. Therefore, if I was given $5,000 to enhance the learning environment in my classroom for not only my student with special needs but my entire classroom, I would spend every penny I could. At the end of my proposal, I have $195.01 left over. I would use this extra money to purchase educational apps for the iPads. One particular app I would purchase would be the “Behavior Tracker App” which would be a great tool to keep track of my students with ADHD’s frequency of particular behaviors. Overall, the technology that I selected for my classroom can be used in many ways to create interactive lessons that will benefit the multiple learning abilities.

Thank You!
