A few observations …
> The appropriate level of research is a function of both the size of an industry and the growth rate of that industry• Telecom is currently scoring badly on both metrics
> Acquisitions drive companies away from investing in research• Why invent new technologies if your products are coming
from other companies?
> With value shifting away from bandwidth towards uses of bandwidth, there is a shift of research away from components and towards applications and systems.
> IPR policies of US universities is not competitive with those of European and Asian universities
