NOx Analyzer - 9110

The Model 9110 Nitrogen Oxides Analyzer uses chemiluminescence detection, coupled with state-of-the-art microprocessor technology to provide the sensitivity, stability and ease of use needed for ambient or dilution CEM monitoring requirements of nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and the total nitrogen oxides (NOx).

The Process:

1. The 9110 calculates the amount of NO present by measuring the amount of chemiluminescence given off when the sample gas is exposed to ozone (O3).

2. A catalytic-reactive converter converts any NO2 in the sample gas to NO, which is then measured as above (including the original NO in the sample gas) and reported as NOx.

3. NO2 is calculated as the difference between NOX and NO.

Since the density of the sample gas effects the brightness of the chemiluminescence reaction, the software compensates for temperature and pressure changes.

Auto-Zero

Stability is further enhanced by an Auto-Zero feature which periodically redirects the gas flow through the

analyzer so that no chemiluminescence reaction is present in the sample chamber. The analyzer measures this‘dark” condition and uses the results as an offset, which is subtracted from the sensor readings recorded while the instrument is measuring NO and NOX. The result gives a sensitive, accurate, and dependable performance under the harshest operating conditions.

Software features:

The M200E analyzer’s multi-tasking software gives the ability to track and report a large number of operational parameters in real time. These readings are compared to diagnostic limits, should any fall outside of those limits the analyzer issues automatic warnings. Using the analyzer's internal memory, allows the logging of multiple parameters including averaged or instantaneous concentration values, calibration data, and operating parameters such as pressure and flow rate.

The chemiluminescence method for detecting NOX is subject to interference from a number of sources including water vapor (H2O), ammonia (NH3), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) but the M200E has been designed to reject most of these interferences. Ammonia3 is the most common interferent, which is converted to NO in the analyzer’s NO2 converter and creates a NOX signal artifact. If the M200E is installed in an environment with high ammonia, steps should be taken to remove the interferent from the sample gas before it enters the reaction cell. Teledyne API offers a sample gas conditioning option to remove ammonia and water vapor

Carbon dioxide diminishes the NOX signal when present in high concentrations.

The analyzer should not be used in an application with excess CO2,

Excess water vapor can be removed with one of the dryer options described in Section 6.8. In ambient air applications, SO2 interference is usually negligible.

NOx Analyzer - 9110SPECIAL FEATURES

1. DILUTION RATIO OPTION

The Dilution Ratio Option is a software option that is designed for applications where the Sample gas is diluted before being analyzed. Typically this occurs in Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEM) applications where the quality of gas in a smoke stack is being tested and the sampling method used to remove the gas from the stack dilutes the gas. Once the degree of dilution is known, this feature allows the user to add an appropriate scaling factor to the analyzer’s CO concentration calculation so that the Measurement Range and concentration values displayed on the instrument’s Front Panel Display and reported via the Analog and Serial Outputs reflect the undiluted values.

2. MAINTENANCE MODE SWITCH

The instruments can be equipped with a switch that places the instrument in maintenance mode. When present, the switch is accessed by opening the hinged front panel and is located on the rearward facing side of the display/keyboard driver PCA, on the left side, near the particulate filter. When in maintenance mode the instrument ignores all commands received via the COMM ports that alter the operation state of the instrument.

3. SECOND LANGUAGE SWITCHAPI’s instruments can be equipped with a switch that activates an alternate set of display message in a language other than the instrument’s default language. To activate this feature, the instrument must have a specially programmed Disk-on-Module (DOM) containing the second language.

ELECTRO-STATIC DISCHARGE

Modern electronic devices such as the types used in the various electronic assemblies of your analyzer, are very small, require very little power and operate very quickly. Unfortunately, the same characteristics that allow them to do these things also make them very susceptible to damage from the discharge of static electricity.

Damage to components occurs when these static charges come into contact with an electronic device.

Temporary anti-ESD work area Always wear an Anti-ESD wrist strap when working on the electronic assemblies of

your analyzer.

Simply touching a grounded piece of metal is insufficient. While this may temporarily bleed off static

Always store sensitive components and assemblies in anti-ESD storage bags or bins
