We made it through November’s Newsletter and I thank Veronica for her time and patience. The Holley days feel sad this year because it is my first Thanksgiving and Christmas without mom. I lived with her and was with her the last 20 years for the Holley days and she loved Christmas. Mom had many traditions including picking out and decorating the tree with all of her treasures she had collected over the years. She and my dad, who passed Aug 2015, always made a big production out of Christmas when we were kids. Dad had his 8 mm camera and a huge light bar blinding us as we made our way to the huge pile of presents. Thanks mom and dad for all the gifts and all you did for me. We are so grateful that we were able to spend some time with friends in Sedona and even visited another club in Cottonwood, Arizona. That is what square dancing is all about. Besides the immediate benefit of physical and mental exercise, square dancing creates life-long friendships. We invite you to join us for some special December events. Mark your calendars... Our club dance (plus- level) will be held on December 3rd. This is new for us this year, and we're hoping that it allows you time to come dance before you get busy with other holiday events. The Rona Report presents

The Life and Times of George Eugene Biggs

George maintains that he’s as old as dirt, but we all know that’s not true. Just look at his accomplishments at the RivCo Festival on Saturday, November 12. Believe it or not, George danced every tip from 10:00 am until the carpool departed at 9:45 pm and that included thirty minutes of hot hash with Mike Sikorsky.

So let’s journey down the roads of life and get to know George. George Eugene Biggs was born in Colorado on November 25, 1932. To this day, family members who knew him early in life call him Eugene, but those who met him later in life call him George. He grew up on a farm, where he became well acquainted with working in the dirt. In 1950, he joined the Air Force and served in Japan.

George and his wife, Betty Lou, had four children: Bretly Eugene, Kevin Eugene, Bradly Eugene and Melody Ann, who was affectionately called Melody Eugene! George now enjoys spending time with his grandson, Gisoo, who is in the sixth grade.

Fishing, riding ATVs, going camping in his motorhome, and leading a life of adventure and discovery provided George with many interesting experiences. This love of adventure and his job with the US Postal Service found him at home in Oregon, Washington, California, and Texas, as well as Colorado. In Texas where every little town had its own club, he enjoyed square dancing. There he could easily dance every night of the week with hundreds of other dancers. In California, he earned his certificate in scuba diving. In Washington, he wrangled a tour of a Trident submarine, and in Oregon…you guessed it, he just had to visit the town of Eugene.

Nowadays he spends his winters in Hemet, where he enjoys making beautiful stained glass innovations and dancing with the Grape Stompers. In summer, he returns to his self-built home in Hartsel, Colorado, where he enjoys breathtaking views from an elevation of 9,000 feet.

All the best until I drop in again! Rona
