Tensiometers
Yolles David
Soil Scientist
Tension Tension – is negative relatively to
the atmospheric pressure. The units to express the tension
are similar to those used for atmospheric pressure.
Tensiometer Tensiometer – Equipment that
measures the tension that water is holed in soil. The tension readings are in the range from 0 to 0.80 atmospheres (80 cntibars). In tensions above, air penetrates into the pores of the ceramic cup. The result is, discontinuation between the water in the columns of the ceramic cup to the water in the soil columns.
The tension measured by tensiometer occurs dew to capillary tension (matrix potential) of the soil.
The measurements are not influenced by the osmotic pressure, therefore in saline soils pre calibration is necessary.
