Owned by Riverside for nearly 100 years
Operated as a landfill until 1985
Public Works reviewed recreational uses
Site makes recreational use difficult
Ideal site for Photovoltaic (PV) project
Landfill cap is “peaked” like a house roof
Total of 120 acres
60 - 80 acres slopes/visible to homes on bluffs
40 acres slopes towards Santa Ana River
40 acres can support 5 - 10 MW
Enough power for 1,500 – 5,000 homes
RPU’s Feasibility Study
CEQA work completed
Deferred Project $7 million allocated to rebates
RFP – Power Purchase Agreement
No initial investment by RPU
Determine kWh cost competitiveness with other
renewable resources
Consider moving forward if kWh competitive,
defer if uncompetitive
No project commitment by RPU at this point
Significant industry interest
No impact to landfill cap or other departments
