• Required to be on file for most types of aid
• At the end, gives the student the Expected Family Contribution and an estimate of Pell Grant and Stafford Loan amounts.
Important Filing Dates to RememberHARD vs. SOFT DEADLINES
HARD DEADLINE: The only federal deadline is June 30th of the end of the award year (i.e. for the current award year we are in, June 30, 2015)
SOFT DEADLINE: Each school has different priority dates– At PDCCC there are three:
• Fall Semester – June 1st
• Spring Semester - October 1st
• Summer Semester - April 16th
Other schools range from February 15th (ODU and Tech) to March 15th
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Priority dates mean if the student files the FAFSA and has all other requirements completed by this date then s/he is eligible for more aid. Schools have unlimited Pell and Loans, but other aid is “first completed – first served” until funds run out. Funds run out quickly!
STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE SOFT DEADLINE = LOAN HEAVY OFFERS
