Dear Parents/Caregivers, Happy Easter! I hope your Easter celebraons were filled with hope and love. We have a number of events this term which will showcase the great things happening at Holy Spirit School to the wider community. On Tuesday 8 May, we will host principals from Cluster 11 for the Term 2 meeng. Invito’ – From the AP-RE

Welcome back to Term Two!

Easter – Journeying with the Risen Christ.

Over the coming weeks will continue to celebrate the Easter joy right up until the feast of Pentecost, which completes the Easter season. Thank you to the children for the way they engaged in our Easter Liturgy, sharing the Easter story.

I hope you had an enjoyable time during the Easter break. I was fortunate to attend the Commonwealth Games with my family. We went to the Swimming and Rugby Sevens. It was such a wonderful atmosphere being part of the crowd, we were in such awe of the amazing athletes. The inclusion of the para-athletes made these games very special also. The gold medal moments were exciting and something to be proud of but the moment that most stays with me is Kurt Fearnley’s win in the T54 Marathon.

“Determination. Strength. Resilience. A bit of Aussie larrikin. A lot of inner steel. These are the things that define Kurt Fearnley, not the racing wheelchair that seems an extension of his body, nor the non-functioning section of his lower spine and sacrum he was born with in the central western NSW town of Cowra 37 years ago.

"I just kept saying to myself, just fight, just fight, just fight," he said.

"I saw it [heart rate] sitting that high … I thought this is just one last crack — I'm going to race marathons until they bury me in a gutter, but I'm not going to be able to find that [effort] again.

"When you've got that green and gold on, mate, you've got to be fierce and you've got to just deal with whatever you've got to deal with.

"You put it on, and you just fight and I was thinking that the whole time."

ANZAC Day

Next Wednesday we will join with the New Farm community for the ANZAC Day Ceremony at 9am. Students need to meet at 8.45am near the memorial. One of the special people that has been at this ceremony over a number of years is Les Glover, who shares his memories and thoughts on this day. I received an email from Jan McClean (Sandakan POW Family and Friends Assoc. Qld) recently to let me know of the passing of Les “Bunny” Glover.

Project Compassion

Thank you for your wonderful support of Project Compassion last term. We raised $1712.30 – an amazing effort.

On the journey this day, accompany us

In the stories we share, inspire us

In our breaking of bread, sustain us

In our desire for you

May our hearts burn

And overflow with joy and love,

Gracious Companion.

Have a great week, God Bless, Sue Williams,
