Dear Parents/Caregivers, Late last year my Aunt and Uncle celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary! A surprise lunch to rec- ognise this special milestone had my Aunt in shock for most of the aſternoon. They are, and have been wonderful role models for me; both as a couple and individuals. They work hard, enjoy life and love their family passionately. They care about community and have always done something to sup- port those in need. My uncle is a train nut and my aunty is an amazing cook and equally good tennis player. For many years my Mum, Dad, Aunt and Uncle travelled overseas together. These trips and the unfolding events connue to provide entertainment at family gatherings when we hear the male versus female account of the incidents that have occurred in various countries of the world. No maer where I have lived, my aunt (I am fairly certain this is not Uncle Johns area of experse) has never missed acknowledging my birthday with a giſtincluding yesterday! I thought of Aunty Diane and Uncle John this week as I gathered with principals on the northside of Bris- bane. The day began with a prayer which included an excerpt from Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortaon Gaudee Et Exsultate (On the call to holiness). Pope Francis talks about striving for holiness amidst whatever you are doing – as mother, father, doctor, business owner, aunt, uncle, friend or neighbour. To be holy does not require being a bishop, a priest or religious. We are frequently tempted to think that holiness is only for those who can withdraw from ordinary affairs to spend much me in prayer. That is not the case. We are called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find ourselves. These are the people who are themselves in all situaons. They do not aract aenon except when people comment about their goodness and humility. They are reliable and look out for others. They take on their roles and commit to their work. They are holy people. People hidden and found in the realies of life. These are the people we look to and aspire to be like. I am grateful for the many hidden holy people who contribute to our school community. I am especially grateful for the example of holiness I see in my Aunt and Uncle. With every good wish, Kim Family Week Next week is our first Family Weekfor 2018. This is a homework freeweek when we encourage you to take some special me to do something as a family. Perhaps the chil- dren can help with cooking dinner or maybe mum can do pickup from school instead of dad. Maybe you can go to the park aſter school and have a picnic. Take some me out from the normal busyness and do something different. Please send your Family Week photos to: [email protected] so we can include them in the next newsleer. St Anthonys Invitaonal Cross Country and District Trials Well done to our team who represented HSS on Tuesday. Outstanding effort by all com- petors was the message given by Miss Bozzi. Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Late last year my Aunt and Uncle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary! A surprise lunch to rec-ognise this special milestone had my Aunt in shock for most of the afternoon. They are, and have been wonderful role models for me; both as a couple and individuals. They work hard, enjoy life and love their family passionately. These trips and the unfolding events continue to provide entertainment at family gatherings when we hear the male versus female account of the incidents that have occurred in various countries of the world. No matter where I have lived, my aunt (I am fairly certain this is not Uncle John’s area of expertise) has never missed acknowledging my birthday with a gift…including yesterday!

I thought of Aunty Diane and Uncle John this week as I gathered with principals on the northside of Bris-bane. The day began with a prayer which included an excerpt from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Gaudette Et Exsultate (On the call to holiness). Family Week Next week is our first “Family Week” for 2018. This is a “homework free” week when we encourage you to take some special time to do something as a family. Perhaps the chil-dren can help with cooking dinner or maybe mum can do pickup from school instead of dad. Maybe you can go to the park after school and have a picnic. Take some time out from the normal busyness and do something different. Please send your Family Week photos to: [email protected] so we can include them in the next newsletter.

St Anthony’s Invitational Cross Country and District Trials Well done to our team who represented HSS on Tuesday. Outstanding effort by all com-petitors was the message given by Miss Bozzi. It is tough competition when we are up against larger schools. Well done to Sofia Fajardo Martinez who finished in 2nd place and Ruby Cronk who finished in 4th place. Outstanding results in this competition.

Congratulations also to Val Adami and Nick Jessi who competed in the District Cross Country Trials. Both boys finished 45th out of about 100 competitors in their respective events.

Invito’ – From the AP-RE

This weekend Erin, Oliver, Matilda, Lillian, Kyna, Grace, Reuben, Nicholas, Max, Benat, Amelie, Kinsco, Nell, Camille, Kevin, William, Gabi, Luca, Mia, Elizabeth, Beatriz, Freya, Orlando, Theodora, Ziggy, Angelo will celebrate their First Eucharist.

Yesterday we spent some time in prayerful reflection in preparation for the day. We focussed on the reading from John, ‘The vine and the branches.’

John: “16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.”

Reflections from Year 4:

• On Wednesday we went up to the Prayer Stones. We listened to prayers and then reflected on our own passage from the bible. We sat in silence and thought about Jesus in our hearts. We lit candles. Each student in Year 4 tied a ribbon to a wood-en tree. We listened to John’s Gospel. The Year 4 students and teachers reflected at the Prayer Stones. Mrs Williams was there too. We all reflected on our next Sac-rament, Eucharist. (Kevin)

• On Wednesday 2nd May both Year 4 classes joined to go to the Prayer Stones for a Eucharist reflection. Firstly Mia, Gabi & Reuben lit the candles. Afterwards Ms Tuttiett read a reading. Next we each chose a piece of scripture and we had to write down why we chose it. After that we listened to Ms Bozzi and Mrs Williams read. We took a photo with the Prayer Stones and tied a ribbon to a beautiful wooden tree. Next we headed towards the undercover area where tables were set up. We each chose a circle or square piece of wood and drew a cross or heart. I chose the cross. We got to decorate it with green, blue, yellow, red and many more coloured gems! They looked gorgeous. It was great. Thank you Mrs Williams, , Miss Tuttiett & Ms Bozzi. (Kinsco)

• On Wednesday May 2nd, Year 4 went out with Mrs Williams, Miss Tuttiett & Ms Bozzi to the Prayer Stones. Year 4 went to the Prayer Stones with a scripture passage and responded to the words of God. The First Eucharist is a Sac-rament consisting of the first time you eat the wafer (bread) and drink the wine. Year 4 made special tiles to indi-cate their love to God. Year 4S & 4H both got a Prayer Tree and tied a ribbon to their tree. Overall, we had a great Eucharist Reflection. (Max)

We look forward to celebrating with these children over the weekend. Thank you to the children who will be coming along to sing at the Sunday celebration. Please meet me in the church at 9.15am.

Mother’s Day Liturgy

Next Friday, 11th May, we will celebrate our MAGES – Mothers, Aunties, Grandmas and Everyone who loves me at a spe-cial liturgy. We look forward to all these special women in our lives joining us for this celebration.

We pray for the children who will take the next step in their faith journey:

May God the Creator, Source of All Life, lead them in the way of truth.

May God the Son, our Brother and Teacher,

show them how to live a committed life.

May God the Holy Spirit, the Wisdom of God, grace them with the wisdom to choose what is good.

Amen

Have a great week, God Bless, Sue Williams
