It is with great pleasure, that I can inform you that Miss Phillipa King our Stage 2 Assistant Principal and classroom teacher of 3/4K was recognised at this ceremony for her high quality practice and ongoing commitment to the education of children on the Central Coast. This is a marvellous achievement for a person who truly loves working at WWSPS. On behalf of the entire school community, we thank her for her fabulous contribution to the lives of our kids. Additionally, I would also like to mention Mr Dave Crotty, who also received an award nominated by our school. Dave has continually gone above and beyond to support us with our technology needs. His depth of knowledge and helpful and friendly approach make him a pleasure to work with. Special thanks to both these people for making our school a better place. Brisbane Water Secondary College Year 5 Visit Yesterday our Year 5 students visited BWSC Umina Campus for taster lessons to get them ready for their transition to high school in just over 12 months from now. The high school reported that our students’ behaviour was outstanding and that they are very much looking forward to having such a nice group of students at their school in 2021. Great work Year 5! Working Bee This Saturday, WWSPS will be holding a Working Bee on the school grounds between 10am and 1pm. Several projects have been identified for work, with parents, children and extended family members all welcome attend. If you would like to attend (even for a short time) please come prepared with appropriate clothing, footwear and gardening gloves (if you have them). A morning tea will be provided. Tell Them From Me Survey As in previous years, The Tell Them From Me survey for parents, students and teachers has opened for 2019. In the coming weeks all students in Year 4, 5 and 6 will be completing the survey unless exempt by parent request. A note regarding this will be sent home this week. This survey gives the school important information on the programs that are of benefit to the students, as well as providing valuable constructive feedback on ideas to make our school even better. The more responses we get the better our ability to make positive change. Last year the number of parent responses was at a record high. We would love to better this again in 2019 and as such, we will be rewarding the classes in our school who achieve the highest response rate! We value the contributions that our parents make to our school and would like to invite all parents to complete the Tell them from Me Parent Survey by visiting the following link: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/92d9p The survey window closes on October 25, 2019. Kindy Open Day Our Kindergarten transition process at WWS will continue this Thursday, 5 September. This will be the second of our Kindergarten Open Days, running between 11.30am and 1.00pm. This will provide prospective students and their families a chance to meet key members of our school community, tour the school, visit the classrooms and of course, ask questions. If you know anyone living in our local area who has not yet made enquiries about kindy enrolment for 2020, please don’t hesitate to recommend our school and contact the office for more details. Have a great week everyone, Matt Barr Principal

Book Week/Book Fair Thank you to all of the students and families who supported our Book Fair and Author/Illustrator visits last week. Students enjoyed the presentations and there was a sudden increase in borrowing Mark Greenwood books from our library which was great. The highlight for me was seeing all the happy faces on both days and listening to students explain their character’s achievements.

Each teacher chose the top three best dressed students from their class, from each year group, to go into a draw. The first name drawn out of each year group was the lucky winner of a voucher to spend at the Book Fair. Congratulations to those lucky students.

Thank you again for your support and for helping us raise money to spend on classroom and library resources.

Positive Behaviour For Learning This week, the whole school focus is remembering our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Relationships in the Library. In the Library, we need to listen to all teachers, look after the books and other equipment as well as use kind and encouraging words to each other. This will make our Library a happy and productive learning environment for everyone. PBL Team

Excellent Public Speaking skills start at a young age. Alexis and Amelia .Mc in Stage 1 demonstrated that they have what it takes to excel in public speaking at the school competition and were successful at getting to the Regional Public Speaking competition at Empire Bay Public School. We are very proud of their talent and efforts. Well done girls!

NOTIFICATIONS OF INFLUENZA AND GASTROENTERITIS We have been notified by a small amount of parents that their child has been diagnosed with Influenza A and also gastroenteritis. Both viruses are highly contagious. If your child is sick with the flu, stay at home and avoid close contact with other people to prevent them from also becoming sick. For more information on how to treat and prevent these illnesses please go to the NSW Health website : https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets Influenza – Wait at least 24 hours after fever resolves and when symptoms subside. Gastroenteritis – wait until 48 hours after vomiting and diarrhoea ceases before returning to school.

NSW Goalball State Championship Success Woy Woy South Public School had two teams play in the NSW Goalball 4 Schools State Championships last Thursday. Both teams played very well finishing their rounds undefeated. Our Year 5 team unfortunately lost their semi-finals by just one point, finishing third overall. Our year 4 team remained undefeated winning the final convincingly to take home the NSW Cup Trophy. Max received the Most Valuable Player of the competition award. All players represented the school with outstanding sportsmanship and skill. Well done boys on this extraordinary achievement.
