Term 3 I Issue 15 I 23/08/2017 Last week I took the time to reflect on the intended direction of the College. In summary, the good news is that we are poised to advance in a number of directions, which include the boarding house, the college driveway and the development of future areas for renewal and improvement. This is important for us as we are wanting to establish and secure our future as a College that continues to both meet and serve the needs of our community. Along with this, I was invited to give feedback to a church review group that is currently reviewing all church structures Australia wide. What I take encouragement from in this sort of review is that we are not allowing ourselves to stagnate either as a church or as a school. We are constantly and collectively looking at ways to remain both effective in our mission and relevant to our communities. Please continue to pray for us as we look to better meet your needs. We have a good thing going at the moment… let’s make it GREAT! Term 3 I Issue 15 I 23/08/2017

Last week I took the time to reflect on the intended direction of the College.

Blessings,

Mr Nick Thomson Principal

VISIT TO BUNBURY SDA CHURCH Service, resilience and God’s plan for us as a community were the three key points of focus presented by Carmel Adventist College Secondary students Michaela and Sieanne. The children's story was told by Mr Brad Flynn who reiterated that parents really do know best. It was such a funny story... If you run into Mr Flynn ask him what his favourite fruit is? Julie McCutcheon shared her love and passion for Adventist Education and her role at the school. The program finished with Mr Nicholas Thomson preaching on Acts chapter 2, 3 and 4. His sermon was titled 'SO WHAT?’ At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down and gave them the ability to speak in the languages of the different people around them so that they understood perfectly. They could have just relished that experience and then gone home and the whole thing would have been ‘so what?’ But they didn’t, they went out into the world to share the gospel. The same goes for any of us. We can come to church and to school, have worships, break bread

together and quote Bible texts, but if we don’t go out into the broader world and share the love and gospel of

Christ, then so what? The gospel is a light that is to draw others to us so that we can pass it on, from person to person, until the whole world is shining with His love and freedom. Take the ‘so what’ and make it ‘so where.’

The congregation was blessed and appreciative of having the school there to share sabbath with…

MULTICULTURAL DAY!!! On Monday 21st August, our CAC community experienced a truly interactive multicultural Chapel, and delicious lunch. We witnessed a traditional Welcome to Country, beautiful cultural dances, and Hungarian prayers. Mr Brad Flynn reminded us of the importance of multiculturalism, and that what we experienced would be a little taste of what heaven will be like. With all people of all nations in all languages- Woohoo!

The whole College rotated through four interactive rooms in four groups sharing the specific cultures of Indigenous Australians, Africa, India and Tonga. Then at lunch we were able to taste these traditional foods together.

On behalf of CAC I would like to say an enormous thank you to Sela, Nyasha, Ms Lo-Anne Jenke, and Mr and Mrs Narlapati for organising such an amazing celebratory day.

SENIOR PATHWAYS (CAREERS) NIGHT On Tuesday 15th August, senior students and their parents came to the Carmel Secondary Assembly Hall. It was a great evening, and very helpful for those who attended in helping them to make informed decisions about their future study and career pathways!

Several universities and training organisations were represented. Students were able to ask questions and collect materials to take home for later reference.
