Term 3 Week 1 23 July 2019 Welcome back to what is going to be another busy school term full of quality teaching and extra-curricular activities. Some of the big events happening this term include Education Week, Book Parade and Father’s Day Brekkie. Please keep the Term Calendar that will accompany this week’s newsletter somewhere handy to keep you informed of upcoming events. Our weekly Facebook post ‘What’s Happening this Week’ is also a good way of keeping up to date.

Before we look ahead, I would like to mention a few events that need acknowledgment from the end of Term 2.

In Week 10 last term we celebrated NAIDOC Week. All students were involved in initiatives throughout the week including ‘Doing Things Together Day’ and the opening and closing assemblies. This year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Voice, Treaty, Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future’ is very important and one our students engaged with throughout the week. Thank you to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students for their leadership throughout NAIDOC Week and to Ms Turnbull and Miss Rene’e for organising this wonderful initiative including the smoking ceremony at the opening assembly. Special mention to the Wadalba Boys Didge Group and our own Cultural Group who performed at our NAIDOC assemblies.

Spelling Bee On Tuesday, 2 July we held the TPS Finals for the Stage 2 and 3 Spelling Bee Competition. Congratulations to all students who competed in this event. You should all be very proud of yourselves. There were some very tricky words. We wish those students going on to the next level the best of luck!

Rugby League Congratulations to our Senior Boys Rugby League Team who were victorious winning the Central Coast All Schools Division B Under 12 Competition. The boys defeated Wyoming in very difficult weather conditions 38-0. The boys participated with enthusiasm and showed great sportsmanship. They will now go on to play in the NSW Rugby League All Schools Competition on Wednesday, 7 August versing Wamberal Public School. Thank you to Paul Bowden, Michael Brophy and Sheldon Hall who have offered their time to train the boys throughout the year and to Ms Turnbull for coordinating the rugby league team.

School Development Day On Monday, 22 July we had our School Development Day. Staff focused on a variety of important teacher professional learning opportunities with a key focus on Formative Assessment. Our teaching staff also engaged with the School Plan specifically looking at the Milestone document which outlines the targets for 2019 and beyond and how we are to achieve these. In the afternoon staff also had the opportunity to work in stage teams.

Interrelate Interrelate will be visiting our school on Thursday, 15 August to deliver some very important sessions on ‘Where did I come from?’ and ‘Preparing for puberty’. These can be very difficult topics for parents to discuss with their child / children. Interrelate have been delivering programs such as these since 1926. These sessions are for families with children in Years 3 to 6. Interrelate charges $30 per family for one session and $35 per family for both sessions. As this is a very important program the school is subsidising this program to encourage as many families to engage in this worthwhile experience. The cost for one session is $15 and the cost to attend both sessions is $20 per family. A note explaining this program further will be sent to all Primary families today. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
