Sanctuary Mountain Education Programme We are organising a trip to ‘Sanctuary Mountain’, Maungatautari for all students. The trip will take place next term and we will let you know when the dates have been finalised. All classes (apart from Room 8) will attend and the cost will be $10 per student. You may wish to organise pay-ments into your school account over the next few weeks to cover the cost. PTA Update…

Ag Day Bake Sale There will be a bake stall again this year,

which will raise funds towards resources for our students. Please could you think about providing a cake or other baking/sweets for the day. A plate will come home at the start of next term, which can be filled and returned on the morning of Ag Day, which is Friday 14th October.

Community Notice Junior Scottish Dancing We are planning to start a Junior Scottish dancing group in Cambridge on Wednesdays, starting 12th Oct, from 6 to 7pm at St Andrews Hall, Cambridge Road. Ages 8-14. The cost will be $15 for 8 sessions Oct 12 – Nov 30. Contact Connie 0272 416 339 (text/call).

Indoor flower and craft for Agriculture Day 2016

Every year as part of Ohaupo School’s Ag day students compete in an indoor flower show type competition. Below is the list of compulsory items for each of the year levels.

For the Year Level Section, students make their displays at school, on Thursday 13th October.

All students must bring to school items listed below (flowers, saucers, shoebox lids etc) on the morning of Thursday 13th October. Open Section items are to be made at home and brought to school on Thursday morning. Judging will occur in the afternoon on Thursday and the items will then be on display on Friday 14th October until 2pm on Agriculture Day. Our Judge Chris Edmeades will come to school on Monday 10 October and talk to the stu-

dents so they know what is required.

Year Level Section

Year 0 – 2 students 1) Sand-saucer – Students need to bring a named saucer (not a plate) and lots of small

flowers. Pansy or smaller size are best, one larger flat flower for the centre is ok. Sand provided at school

2) Flower Art (This will be done at school in class)

Year 3 – 4 students 1) Miniature garden in a shoebox lid – Students need to bring a shoe box lid lined

with tinfoil, no plastic or toys. Any structures must be made by the student from card,

match or ice-block sticks or modelling clay) Sand provided at school

2) Flowers in an unusual container – students need to bring 1, 3, 5 or 7 flowers plus

greenery, an unusual container, oasis florist foam if needed or jar to hold water inside container. Unusual containers need to be able to hold a jar with water in it if they are not

water tight.

3) Flower Art (This will be done at school in class)

Open Section - Optional

Students can choose items from the Open Section (a, b or c) to make at home and bring to school on the morning of Thursday the 13th October.

a) Wild Flower arrangement (can be just greenery or dried wild flowers).

b) Nature’s Creatures (creatures made from shells, nuts, wood, leaves, twigs, berries etc. must be organic with glue or blue tac to stick it together).

c) Baking: 3 iced or decorated cupcakes or biscuits.

Sunday Pottery Workshops in Ngahinapouri Come along and work on

your own personal project in a relaxed atmosphere with a fun group of ladies. We start at 9.30am and finish around 3.30 pm. I cover a variety of techniques - hand building, slip casting and wheel work. The work is fired in an electric kiln and we also have regular raku firings. The workshop fee covers tuition, tools, glazes and firings. There is an extra cost for clay. Everyone brings their own lunch and I provide refreshments (tea, coffee, etc) although sometimes we enjoy a shared lunch. For more enquiries, please phone Tammy on 0210 648 474.

MAD COW DRUMS - Drum Tuition

Mad Cow Drums are pleased to make the following offering to students of Ohaupo School who

want to learn to play drums in 2016 so any future “ROCKSTARS” get your name down!

Lessons will be on Thursday afternoon at 3.00pm.

The cost per student is $11.75 + GST/week.

The lesson dates will run in conjunction with the school term.

We will be offering a drum kit hire service. If this is of interest please do email us at

Please note there is no requirement for a drum kit to begin these lessons!

If a student misses a lesson there will be no refunds on that lesson as the fee covers his or her placement for the term.
