Term 4 Week 6, 22nd November, 2019

Principal’s Report - Mr Richard Ford

It has been a very smoky time around the school at the moment and we have been keeping the

students indoors during recess and lunch times when the smoke is thick. The teachers have a very

good understanding of who in their class has asthma and their asthma plans and they

communicate this with other teachers that might take the class as well. Even our Sports in Schools

needed to be done inside this week. Unfortunately there is not much we can do about the

smoke except keep the windows and doors closed and the students inside.

This fortnight started with our Stage 1 students going to the hall for their public speaking

competition. It was amazing to see the quality of our year one and two students’ speeches as

well as the public speaking skills they demonstrated.

Congratulations to all the students who received Principal awards over the last few weeks. There

are a couple more to go and I know the teachers have had a difficult time nominating only one

student out of their class when there are so many students doing a fantastic job.

Our Year 5 buddies have been doing a

wonderful job with our Kindy Orientation. They

are showing some fantastic skills and patience

with our little ones.

We were lucky enough that camp could be put on another date as

the first dates we had the camp was closed for the bushfire. Thank

you to everyone for being flexible to make this work and also the

hard work of the teachers to ensure that the camp was able to go

ahead.

Next Monday will be a 2020 leadership speeches from 9.30-11am. If

your child is delivering a speech please feel free to come and watch.

Students and teachers will vote straight after the speeches.

Today, the students attending Doonside High School next year will go to the high school for a

transition day. The orientation day for most High Schools will be Tuesday 3rd December and

parents will need to make their own arrangements to get their child to the High School they are

attending. For students who do not have orientation on that day, classes will still be on at

Crawford as normal.

The P and C will be running their annual Christmas store on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th

December.

Presentation Day will be Monday 9th December, the Christmas concert will be on Tuesday 10th

December and the Year 6 graduation and farewell will be on Friday 13th December.

"Step into Stage One!!

What an amazing Term 4 our students are having. Can you believe we only

have 18 school days left? Where has this year gone?

This term students are still busy building their reading and writing skills.

Students are developing their skills to write persuasive, imaginative and

informative texts. Feel free to visit your child's classroom to see their amazing

writing skills and the progress they have made over the year.

In mathematics, our students are developing their strategies to form equal

groups, share objects equally and add up doubles. They are also learning

all about 2D shapes and their properties. Keep up the amazing work Stage

One.

Year One will be hosting the Week 8 assembly and we would love to see as

many parents and caregivers come along to support the students and see

their item.

If you have any questions or concerns, please see your child's teacher!

Here's to another fortnight of learning!

Keep smiling and Dream Believe Achieve!

Swim Scheme 2019

This year we had 60 students from Years 2-4 participating in the

special Swim Scheme program. Students enjoyed learning to be

safe in the water and to improve their swimming. It was a great

two weeks with students proving they are safe, respectful learners

even when not in the classroom.
