Addendum #1 Questions and Answers

1. Section 14915 2.03 D. states, “The shunter shall have couplers on each end and shall be compatible with standard AAR knuckle type couplers on SEPTA’s heavy rail commuter fleet and adapters for SEPTA’s electric multiple unit fleet.” Please provide the detail of all couplers on the SEPTA fleet not including “AAR knuckle type”. Include manufacturer, model number and/or part number, and any drawings and photos available. This information is necessary to determine what couplers will have to be included in the scope of supply for the Shunter System. 1A. The AAR to EMU adapter SEPTA currently has is Wabtec part #0574985. The actual Silverliner V coupler is Wabtec part #05758797. Drawings are attached for the mechanical portion. 2. On Section 14915 - Shunter system 2.03 Specific requirements - E. The shunter shall operate on maintenance lead track 1, wheel truing track 9 and repair tracks 8 & 10 to the east end bumping post of any of the named tracks. The maximum grade is 1.5%, the minimum track turning radius is 459’, maximum curve angle 17º, all turnouts are #8. Should we consider the 450.000 lbs weight (or less? please indicate) to operate in lead track 1, wheel truing track 9 and repair tracks 8 & 10 to the east end bumping post of any of the named tracks. 2A. “Lead track 1” is actually designated “Repair Shop Lead” on reference drawings TK1003, TK1004 and TK1013. The 450,000 lbs is the maximum weight of the 3 EMU cars required to be moved at once. Only track 9 and Repair Shop Lead track will require the movement of 3 cars at once, all other tracks will only require a maximum of 2 cars, EMU or coach, being moved by the shunter at once.   3. The maximum grade is 1.5%, the minimum track turning radius is 459’, maximum curve angle 17º, all turnouts are #8. Are the grade and curve combined? 3A. The 1.5% grade is on, what is now called track 8, originally, repair track 2, as shown on original track drawing T-7, attached, approximately 190 feet west of the end of the shop. It is only 83 feet long on tangent track. See reference drawings TK1003, TK1004, TK1013 and TK1032 for all other combinations of grade and curvature. 4. Are these the worst conditions to considerer to define the equipment? 4A. The manufacturer shall determine the worst track issues based information provided. The shunter will not be required to move a consist west of the Repair Shop Lead track.
