THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Page 2: Thanks for the Memories

Without the vision of Liane Blanck, our organization would not exist. Without her

constant work and effort throughout fifteen years of service to our organization, our students would not have had the opportunity to learn and grow.

We’d all like to thank her for her dedication through the years. Many former HY students are

here tonight to share their thanks, and many alumni who could not be here tonight wished to

express their hope that our program will continue and wish Liane well on the next step of her life’s

journey.

THANKS TO LIANE

My 8th graders constantly keep me on my toes and constantly tug on my heart. I can honestly say that my experiences going into classrooms with Healthy YOUth

(2000-2004) were rewarding to me even as a teenager and definitely helped confirm that I wanted to be a teacher.

I also loved all the opportunities that Healthy YOUth provided for me to participate in countless crazy

teambuilding activities...(climbing on people to make human machines, chanting cheers at the Illinois Teen

Institute, doing low ropes courses in the woods) many of which I have tried to use in my own classroom. I even

have the red binder that was made for us one year on the shelf in my classroom as a reference tool!

Liane and Mrs. Will, I will always appreciate you for giving me a very unique opportunity to lead in Healthy YOUth as a high school student. I know that this helped shape me and develop me more than I probably realize.

And I will always appreciate the endless energy you brought to helping us plan events. I specifically remember gluing countless graves on butcher paper for "Dead Day"

and planning a pirate-themed event for 8th graders! It was a joy to work with you and Healthy YOUth will be

something I always remember.

Molecular Biology I am eternally grateful for the opportunity

to serve in such an awesome organization as Healthy Youth! It definitely helped to

cultivate many of the skills and tools I use today. My research deals with examining gene expression variation after exposure

to cocaine. I have also had the opportunity to teach a biology lab at the university I attend. EVERYTHING I learned during my tenure in Healthy YOUth I have utilized! This organization will always hold a place in my heart! Thank you to Liane, Mrs. Will, and the entire Healthy Youth team for investing in me so that I may invest in others! Wish I could be there, but I send all of my love to you guys!

I will never be able to fully express what my experience with Healthy YOUth has meant to

me. As a scared freshman (Lambchop, anyone?), I surely had no clue what I was getting myself

into, but I am sure glad I did. Being part of such a passionate, caring organization of amazing people truly helped me grow to become the person I am today. Thank you so much for everything, Liane. Your work has been an

invaluable asset to this community and I know that your passion will lead you to something

great in the next chapter of your life.
