THE RECORD NOVEMBER 2012 VOLUME 51 Thanksgiving “As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.” Psalm 16:3 Yes it is the time of the year for us to pause (more than usual) to take additional time to give thanks for the blessings of God. On a few personal notes: I’m very thankful for the gift of my wife with whom I will celebrate 39 years of marriage this month (Wow, time passes quickly when you’re having fun!). I’m thankful for Gwen’s successful surgery; for the blessing of a 3 rd granddaughter; for the marital union of Bethany to Joshua Soper on October 20 th ; for the health HE has given me; the joy and privilege HE gives me to serve as one of Christ’s under shepherds; for the excellent staff with which I’m blessed to serve; for this congregation who responds to God’s Word and seeks to serve Jesus and proclaim His Love. My list could easily go on and on and on. But what’s on your list of THANKS GIVINGS? Take the time to write it out and to praise your Maker, Redeemer and Sanctifier! Now pause to see and give THANKS for what we share in common as Christians: Because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we are God’s favored ones! HE delights in us (Psalm 16:3) and HE honors us in that: o God has adopted us into His family (see Ephesians 1:5) and HE calls us His own sons and daughters. Quite amazing considering our sins and shortcomings. o God gives us “everything we need for life and godliness” (see 2 Peter 1:3). o God promises us forgiveness of our sins (see 1 John 1: 8 9) o God promises to shield us in faith (see 1 Peter 1:5) and this HE does through the Holy Spirit who works through the WORD and SACRAMENTS. o God promises an inheritance (heaven) that can never perish, spoil, or fade (see 1 Peter 1:3 and John 14: 1 6). o HE promises us a “rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ” (see 2 Peter 1:11). o And Jesus has given us the very same glory the Father gave Him! (see John 17:22). Now, I challenge you to find anyone on earth who can top that blessing list! As Christians, we are the most blessed people in the whole world. So this Thanksgiving, meditate on the Honor God has given to you as His child. In humble faith believe it. And then consider this: Who do I know who does not have these rich blessings? (We all know some or many). Then in prayer ask God, “In what ways can my prayers, my witness in words and actions, my financial resources be used by God to bring the Good News of Jesus to those who are spiritually lost and headed for hell?”. You and I are part of God’s Plan to reach them! What an AWESOME PRIVILEGE and RESPONSIBILITY! A Blessed 2012 Thanksgiving to you! Pastor Bruce Noennig and the Staff of Our Redeemer

THE RECORD NOVEMBER 2012 VOLUME 51

Thanksgiving “As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.” Psalm 16:3

Yes it is the time of the year for us to pause (more than usual) to take additional time to give thanks for the blessings of God. On a few personal notes: I’m very thankful for the gift of my wife with whom I will celebrate 39 years of marriage this month (Wow, time passes quickly when you’re having fun!). I’m thankful for Gwen’s successful surgery; for the blessing of a 3rd granddaughter; for the marital union of Bethany to Joshua Soper on October 20th; for the health HE has given me; the joy and privilege HE gives me to serve as one of Christ’s under shepherds; for the excellent staff with which I’m blessed to serve; for this congregation who responds to God’s Word and seeks to serve Jesus and proclaim His Love.

HE delights in us (Psalm 16:3) and HE honors us in that:

o God has adopted us into His family (see Ephesians 1:5) and HE calls us His own sons and daughters. Quite amazing considering our sins and shortcomings.

o God gives us “everything we need for life and godliness” (see 2 Peter 1:3). o God promises us forgiveness of our sins (see 1 John 1: 8 – 9) o God promises to shield us in faith (see 1 Peter 1:5) and this HE does through the

Holy Spirit who works through the WORD and SACRAMENTS. o God promises an inheritance (heaven) that can never perish, spoil, or fade (see 1

Peter 1:3 and John 14: 1 – 6). o HE promises us a “rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior,

Jesus Christ” (see 2 Peter 1:11). o And Jesus has given us the very same glory the Father gave Him! (see John

17:22). Now, I challenge you to find anyone on earth who can top that blessing list! As

Christians, we are the most blessed people in the whole world. THE RECORD NOVEMBER 2012 VOLUME 51

…from Pastor Tom Park

Thanksgiving is more than a nice meal.

Not too long from now we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. It is so easy for us to only focus on the periphery things than to look at the real meaning of Thanksgiving. Those of us who are hosting are stressed out about preparing the perfect meal for everyone and those who are traveling are concerned about gas prices. If we are not thinking about these things, it is so easy for us to look at ourselves as the cause of all the blessings in our lives. The Word of God convicts us, “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’” (Deuteronomy 8:17) But the Word of God continues, “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

As Christians living in the U. S., we are so blessed. Those of us who might not see it, we are extremely blessed by God. The Lord sent Jesus to die for sinners like us who did not have an ounce of redeeming quality. Our Savior is the blessing from heaven we did not deserve. Through the work of Jesus, we are now His children and people belonging to God. As if it were not enough, God placed us to live in this land of free and abundance. We can worship our Savior freely here in America without the fear of persecution.

My brothers and sisters, as we observe Thanksgiving, let us take some time to thank our God for His blessings in our lives. Before we start eating the wonderful Thanksgiving meal, let us praise and thank God for all of our blessings, “O Give Thanks on to the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever!”

May our Lord grant us safe travels and wonderful time together with our friends and family. In His Service, Pastor Tom Park

AMONG THOSE THINGS FOR WHICH

YOU GIVE THANKS THIS MONTH,

LET THE GIFT OF YOUR SAVIOR BE

AT THE TOP OF YOUR LIST.

“Thanks be to God for His

indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians

9:15).

THE RECORD NOVEMBER 2012 VOLUME 51

Greetings from the Children’s Center Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and there is so much to be thankful for. Teaching Staff: ORCCC is welcoming two new full time staff members. Denise Young is the new assistant teacher in our Infant 2 classroom, and Amy Mugaas will be the new assistant teacher in Pre-K1. Thanksgiving: ORCCC will be closed on November 22nd for Thanksgiving. Scratch Paper: We are always in need of more scratch paper. Our children love to draw, paint, and cut. It’s hard to keep up with their demand for more paper. If you have scratch paper you could donate to our center it would be very much appreciated. Even if the paper has printing on one side we would still be happy to use it. Please bring any scratch paper donations to the ORCCC office. CAMPBELL’S LABELS: We are still saving Campbell’s labels. We get points for all labels for education. We collect these points until we have enough to purchase items for the center. Please ask friends and relatives to help us out as well. Some of the products that qualify are:

Campbell’s Prego Goldfish crackers Swanson V8

CASH WISE LABELS FOR LEARNING: We are also saving Cash Wise Labels for Learning points. These are printed out with your purchase receipt. ORCCC can collect them and turn them in to get a percentage back in money we can put towards our classroom supplies. A collection envelope can be found on the bulletin board next to the ORCCC sign in desk. Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Roger and the CCC Staff

Auction Update Save the date – March 23, 2013 at Ramada Plaza Suites, Fargo. Volunteers are needed for the donations team, finance team, facilities team, and baskets team. Contact Principal Jean Syverson if you wish to offer your time, make a monetary donation, or donate new or antique items.

THE RECORD NOVEMBER 2012 VOLUME 51

GIVING GLORY TO GOD

The campaign has been and is going well. As of this writing, we are at $ 181,124.52 in cash, pledges and Pre-campaign funds. Praise God! This has come from 53 individuals and families. The gifts and commitments have ranged from one time gifts of $50.00; a $10 per month pledge for 3 years totaling $360.00; to pledges of $3,000 up to $36,000.00. So you can see all sizes of gifts are given and ALL are received with Thanksgiving. All who give from a heart that loves Jesus will be blessed by HIM! Commitment forms and/or gifts may be placed in the offering plate or in the designated box by the church office. A commitment with no down payment can be made, HOWEVER, we ask that all commitments be made by THANKSGIVING DAY 2012 (November 22nd). In the Thanksgiving worship services on November 21st at 7:30 PM and November 22nd at 9:30 AM, we will Give Thanks and Praise to God for the gifts HE has moved His people to give to this campaign. THEN in early 2013, the leadership of the church can begin making plans for the kitchen remodel and organ renovation based on the amount of money committed during the campaign. YES, the $275,000.00 goal is reachable but it will take the involvement of the majority of our members to do so. If you have not yet made a commitment, we encourage you to “Take it to the Lord in Prayer” and ask the Lord how HE wants you to be involved. As you pray, then listen to His guidance as you consider how God has blessed you. Come and celebrate with us at one of the Thanksgiving worship services!
