Pastor’s Paragraphs

We will be celebrating Stewardship Sunday on Nov 17th. Thanksgiving

is a good time to think about giving, for giving reminds us of all we have

to be thankful for. And as we give, we give others reason to be thankful.

Here are some thoughts about giving:

Give because you have something to give.

Giving helps us get rid of selfishness.

Giving helps our church better reach out to others.

Giving is love at its best.

Thanks for all the many ways you give so freely to the work of the church

and for the joy it brings to others.

Pastor Trevor

There will be a combined service at 10:00

a.m. on Sunday, November 24. Lunch is

provided after the Hanging of The

Greens.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Have your plans changed this year? Would you like to share a

“Friendsgiving” dinner at the church on Thanksgiving Day? Please

let Linda Eastman know if you would be interested. It would be pot

luck or a small donation.

If there is enough interest, I will put out a sign-up sheet in the lobby.

Thank You,

Linda

Starting in October, we have a

new service available to us!

Once a month (the 3rd Sunday of

each month), a nurse will be

available in the Wesley Library

between services to do a quick

wellness check, such as blood

pressures and oxygen levels.

Thank you to our nurses for

donating your time and talent to

serve our Church Family.

Crock Pot Class

This life skills class will be offered

on Monday, November 18th from 6

until 8 pm. Sorry for all the

confusion and changing of dates,

but other family obligations kept

popping up after dates were set.

This hopefully is all set to go and

promises to be a great evening.

If you can join us, come hungry

and come for dinner. Be prepared

to try appetizers, 4 entrees, and a

dessert or two all prepared in crock

pots. Come learn about the

different sizes and uses of crock

pots and you will leave with many

recipes to try at home. Class size is

limited and there will be a $7 fee to

cover supplies. Look for a sign-up

poster soon.

FELLOWSHIP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you have you enjoyed a delicious treat and a hot cup of coffee on Sunday mornings following the 9:00 service, then we need your help. The 2020 Volunteer Schedule for Fellowship is being coordinated and there are Sundays with no volunteers. No volunteers mean no treats or coffee. No experience is necessary as you will be paired with experienced volunteers. All the supplies, this includes treats and beverages, are provided by the church. You are welcome to bring your own treats if you wish, but it is not necessary. Cookies, donuts and other treats are always kept in the church freezer for Fellowship Hour and coffee and punch supplies are also available. If each member or family in the church took a turn volunteering for Fellowship Hour, we would fill the schedule for the entire year. We presently have some wonderful volunteers helping with Fellowship Hour but I don’t think it is fair to ask them to serve more than twice a year. It takes at least 3 people per Sunday for fellowship to go smoothly. I am asking that you might consider volunteering to help with fellowship. It takes only getting to church a little before service to make the preparations. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Laseke at 586-337-1361.

We will be honoring our veterans (and

active duty) during services on

November 10th. To honor someone,

please email any pictures of vets you

know, present or past, to the Beskins

at [email protected] or give to Anne

in the office, by November 4th.

Provide the office with their name,

branch of service, and dates served.

Thank You

UMW Reading Program We are still reading “An Insider’s Guide to Praying for the World”. We are learning a lot about people’s needs in other countries. It has been an amazing journey so far. Below is the new reading schedule: November 6 - chapters 15-20 November 13 - chapters 21-26 November 20 - chapters 27-32 December 4 - chapters 33-38 December 11 - chapters 39-44 December 18 - chapters 45-52 Please note: We will meet at 12:30 p.m. for October and November. However, we will meet at 11 a.m. for all of the December meetings. We will continue to meet in Room 107 for all of our meetings. Keep on reading - there is so much to learn!

UMW Day Trip

Please join the women on November 7 for lunch

at noon at the historical White Horse Inn in

Metamora. We will leave church at 11:15 a.m.

Sign up in the lobby.

Adopt-A-Bag Update

As you can see, our Adopt-a-bag project was

again very successful this year. Thanks to

everyone's generous donations, over 66 bags of

food were collected to help fill the pantries at

Samaritan House for the winter months ahead.

Items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and personal

needs were all donated by members of our

congregation and will be very much appreciated

by those in need. On Sunday, September 29th,

many members of our congregation from both

first and second services helped to carry bags and

fill one car and one van to the brim to be

transported to Samaritan House. It is very

gratifying to be a part of such a caring and

generous church family.

Thanks again, Mary Jo Hosler and Nita Glover

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR CHILDREN'S SERMONS We will again be giving our children small gifts during Children's Sermon in December. If you are willing to help out, please purchase 15 or so inexpensive gifts and whoever is doing Children's Sermon will give them out each Sunday in December. The children really enjoy receiving a surprise. Walmart and Dollar Tree usually have bags containing several small gifts (like pencils, stampers, ornaments, etc. Candy and cookies are also a good idea).

Confirmation Fall 2019

Four young people took part in this fall’s confirmation class. We share in their joy and are excited that they decided to take this next step on their faith journeys. Please join me in congratulating:

Cyrus Adams

Joseph Zaiglin

Jenna Hodgin

RUMC 12th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CRAFT BAZAAR

And RUMMAGE SALE

Saturday, November 23, 2019

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Santa’s elves have been busy on Wednesday mornings making unique items for the “Santa’s Workshop” booth. This year we are adding a Rummage Sale to be held in the lower level. All money raised from both events will be used to help with needs around the church. Keep this in mind when planning your Christmas season to include this special Saturday…November 23rd. This is an opportunity to help your church. Bring your friends to Christmas shop and have lunch. We will have several homemade soups to choose from as well as hot dogs, Sloppy Joes, baked goods, etc. A bake sale will also be held. Crafters are needed! If you would like to rent a table, the price is $30 for an 8’ table. Your help will be needed in various areas. A sign-up sheet will be posted in Fellowship Hall or contact Becky at 586-337-1361.

SECRET SANTAS COMING SOON It's time already to think about our Secret Santa program. There will be boxes in the lobby in November, one for men, one for women, and one for children under 18. If you want to take part, fill out a form located next to the boxes and put it in the appropriate box in the lobby before Sunday, November 24th. On Sunday, November 24th, you will draw out a name and you will be that person's Secret Santa. On December 1st, 8th and 15th you would leave a gift under $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids (kids love Dollar Tree stuff) in the lobby. On December 22nd you will reveal yourself by giving your last gift directly to your recipient, or if he/she isn't in church that day, just leave it in the lobby with your name revealed. It's always fun to receive little surprises, especially during the Christmas Season.

GIVE SCRIP FOR CHRISTMAS Our last order date before Christmas is Sunday, December 1st. Scrip gift cards are great for Christmas gift giving; for shopping for gifts and the extra food you will need for entertaining over the Christmas holidays, and gas cards and restaurant cards for holiday travels. There are many small denomination cards available ($5 and $10, which are great for stocking stuffers). The cards you buy are worth exactly what you pay for them, and our church receives rebates on these cards anywhere from 2% to 16%, depending on the retailer. What an easy way to help pay for United Methodist ministry shares. Order forms are available in the lobby and you would give them to Carol Herm.

Operation Christmas Child is under way!

The mission is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in areas such as impoverished countries, war

torn areas and remote lands. Missionaries deliver these gifts with a message of love, hope and Jesus. The Greatest

Gift, a colorful presentation of the gospel (in their own language) is packed in every box. For many of these children,

the gift-filled shoebox is the first and/or only gift they have ever received.

The GOAL is 160 boxes COMPLETED CONGREGATION WIDE. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, right?

Ways you can participate:

1. Pack a box

a. Take a “Declare His Glory” brochure for directions, labeling and tips.

b. Bring the box to the church by November 24.

c. Pray for the child who will receive it that they also receive God’s love.

FYI - Preprinted boxes have been ordered and will be for sale at the church as soon as they arrive.

2. Donate suggested items for the youth group packing party.

a. Place donated items in the collection box by Sunday, November 17.

b. You may also donate cash to Shelley Rosso who will shop for needed items. Receipts are provided.

3. Sponsor the shipping of a box packed by the Youth Group friends.

a. Complete the official “Declare His Glory” brochure envelope with the $9 (or more) check included.

b. Drop it in the designated collection box and it will get attached to a completed shoe box.

What goes in the shoe box is fun; what comes out is eternal!

Thank you for your support of this mission.

R.U.M.C. Life Skills Classes

Some all new classes and others returning by popular demand! Watch for the sign-up board in the lobby! Learn a new

skill, make a new friend. Grow in your faith journey!

Fall Quilt Class

This fall we’ll be offering a table runner class. This is great for quilters who want a small project, or someone who wants to make gifts. You can even make MANY blocks to create your own sixed quilt. I have a book with many different table runners that require several different skill levels. Come pick out your favorite, and make one this Fall. Optional: you may also come to class to continue working on an existing quilt project, or finish a UFO (Unfinished Object).

Dates for the Fall quilt class: October 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19. Only 6 weeks this fall, more than enough time to make 1 or 2 table runners. I hope to see you there: 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Instructor: Linda Zimmerman

Wool Rug Braiding

Make a family heirloom! In this 6 week class offered in the Spring of 2020, the learner will be instructed on how to make

a 3’ x4’ wool braided rug. All the materials are provided by the fee of $50.00 to be collected at the first class. The fee of

the class will only cover the cost of the metal needle and the waxed thick thread for lacing the braids together, as well as

the prepared wool available to each student. The class is limited to 8 students. Students will need to have access to a

straight stitching sewing machine. It is very helpful for the student if they know the colors they wish to use in their rug!

Master teacher, Dr. Naomi Stasak.
