In the readings of this Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary time, we see two types of lives with opposite realities and with the same dilemma. Both lives needed the mercy of God. On the one hand we have Jairus, head of the synagogue, a man, with a position and respected by his colleagues, with a daughter with "a whole life ahead" and socially protected. Jairus approaches Jesus with confidence, strength and publicly puts himself at the feet of Jesus. Implores insistently that Jesus see his dying daughter so that he can cure her. Jairus with all his status, the weight of his situation and privileged circumstances turns to Jesus. Confident and breaking cultural conventions, he kneels before Christ, placing all his trust in him. His daughter is resurrected. On the other side we have the woman, poor, vulnerable without life, religious (is impure) nor social (cannot touch anyone) and dying every day little by little, approaching Jesus. Her disposition was one of anonymity, of fear and even of shame. But there was only one thought, one belief: "Just touching the mantle of Jesus she would be healed." With deep humility violating cultural norms and purity, she approaches Jesus, on her back and touches him. Her body is healed. What is the connecting point? What is the common denominator pattern? Both had faith! Regardless of their gender differences, social abysses and hierarchical-religious differences both believed that Jesus could bring them life, healing. They demonstrated their faith in particular ways, Jairus publicly and the woman secretly, with deep humility. They both bent knee, both opened their heart to Jesus. Faith must look like something. It is not a matter between God and me. You have to give the testimony in the open field. It is to leave the darkness of anonymity to the luminosity of a public and intentional gesture such as coming to mass. Faith is something constant. It is not procuring when we need something. God is not a God just for when we are in need. And the result? When everything was lost, Christ resurrects Jairus’ daughter. When doctors cannot discover the cure for the woman, Christ heals her. Jairus' faith causes his daughter to rise from the passivity of the grave. The faith of the woman, who had no resources, no courage, no importance in the society in which she lived, makes her able to speak, confess her truth and receive healing, rising from a death in life. For the two, faith becomes the reception of the bonanza of a God of love and in response to their faith they receive life and the promise of eternal life. Let us imitate these glorious gospel characters, and within our style demonstrate our faith, abandoning ourselves in the mercy of the Creator so that God may do extraordinary work with our lives. Let God be God in your life. Let us demonstrate our faith.

En las lecturas de este Décimo Tercer Domingo del tiempo Ordinario, vemos dos tipos de vidas con realidades opuestas y con un mismo dilema. Ambas vidas necesitaban de la misericordia de Dios. Por un lado tenemos a Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, hombre, con posición y respetado por sus compañeros, con una hija con “toda una vida por delante” y socialmente protegida. Jairo se acerca a Jesús con confianza, fuerza y de manera pública se hecha a sus pies. Implora con insistencia el que Jesús visite a su hija moribunda para que la cure. Jairo con todo su estatus, el peso de su situación y circunstancias privilegiadas se vuelve a Jesús. Confiado y rompiendo convenciones culturales se arrodilla ante Cristo, depositando toda su confianza en él. Su hija resucita. Por el otro lado tenemos la hemorroísa, mujer, pobre, vulnerable, sin vida ni religiosa (está impura) ni social (no puede tocar a nadie) y muriendo cada día poco a poco, se acerca a Jesús. Su disposición fue una de anonimato, de

temor y hasta de vergüenza. Pero uno sola era su pensamiento, una sola su creencia: “Con tan sólo tocar el manto de Jesús se curaría”. Con profunda humildad, violando las normas culturales y de pureza se acerca a Jesús,

a sus espaldas y le toca. Su cuerpo queda sanado. ¿Cuál es el punto de conexión? ¿Cuál es el patrón común denominador? ¡Ambos tuvieron fe! Sin importar sus diferencias de géneros, abismos sociales y diferencias jerárquicas-religiosas ambos creyeron en que Jesús podía traerles vida, sanación. Demostraron su fe de maneras particulares, Jairo de forma pública y la mujer de manera secreta, con profunda humildad. Ambos doblaron rodilla, ambos doblaron el corazón.

La fe tiene que verse en lo concreto. No es un asunto entre Dios y yo. Hay que dar el testimonio a campo abierto. Es salir de la oscuridad del anonimato a la

luminosidad de un gesto público e intencional como por ejemplo venir a misa. La fe es algo constante. No es procurarla cuando necesitamos algo. Dios no es un Dios sólo en la necesidad. ¿Y el resultado? Cuando ya todo estaba dado por perdido y su hija dada por muerta Cristo la resucita. Cuando los doctores no pueden descubrir la cura para la mujer Cristo la sana de todo mal. La fe de Jairo hace que su hija se levante de la pasividad de la tumba. La fe de la mujer hemorroísa, que no tenía recursos, ni valor, ni importancia en la sociedad en que vivía, hace que ella pueda hablar, confesar su verdad y recibir sanación, levantándose de la muerte a la vida. Para los dos la fe se convierte en recibir la bonanza de un Dios de amor y en respuesta a su fe reciben vida y la promesa de vida eterna. Imitemos a estos gloriosos personajes del evangelio y dentro de nuestro estilo demostremos nuestra fe, abandonándonos en la misericordia del Creador para que Dios haga obras extraordinarias con nuestras vidas.

As the month of July quickly approaches, we are looking forward to many new beginnings. The 2021-2022 Religious Education Program will definitely undergo some changes from previous years. First and foremost, it will be identified with the newly formed Saint Helen Parish, which will incorporate participating families, volunteers, and staff from five previous parishes: Holy Rosary, Saint Aloysius, Saint Helen, Saint Mark, and Saint Stephen of Hungary. As a result, the total number of participants in the program will increase proportionately. Another change, should the Archdiocese of Chicago COVID-19 Task Force lift restrictions on in-person programming, will involve the physical location where the weekly sessions will take place. Despite the many changes and unknowns, we are optimistic about the future of our expanded parish community, and will continue to strive toward serving the Lord faithfully with our catechetical ministry.

Según se aproxima el mes de julio, esperamos muchos nuevos comienzos. El programa de educación religiosa de 2021-2022 definitivamente traerá cambios de años anteriores. Primeramente, será identificada con la nueva parroquia de Santa Elena, la cual incorporara familias participantes, voluntarios y personal de cinco parroquias previas: Santo Rosario, San Luis Gonzaga, Santa Elena, San Marcos y San Esteban de Hungría. Como resultado, el número total de participantes en el programa ha de aumentar proporcionalmente. Otro cambio, del grupo de trabajo COVID-19 de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago decidir permitir sesiones en persona, envolvería el lugar físico donde se llevara a cabo las sesiones semanales. A pesar de los muchos cambios y áreas desconocidas de por delante, seguiremos hacia delante fielmente sirviendo al Señor con nuestro ministerio catequético.

Welcome Fr. Edward Cronin (Associate Pastor) Fr. Edward Cronin—Ordained 1980 Archdiocese of Chicago Fr. Cronin has been assigned as the Associate Pastor for St Helen Parish effective July 1, 2021. He was the Pastor of St Helen until Fr. Claudio was assigned as the new Pastor of St Helen. Fr. Cronin has an extensive background as an Associate to various parishes in the Archdiocese, the Presbyteral Council and as Chaplain of Midway International Airport. He is now in the St. Aloysius Rectory and Fr. Claudio will be residing in the St. Helen Rectory. We welcome Fr. Ed and we look forward to his sermons at our Sunday Masses.

Bienvenido Padre Edward Cronin (Párroco Asociado) Padre Edward Cronin—Ordenado al Sacerdocio 1980 Arquidiócesis de Chicago

El Padre Cronin ha sido asignado como Pastor Asociado para la Parroquia de Sta. Elena a partir del 1 de julio, 2021. Fue el Párroco de Sta. Elena hasta que el P. Claudio fue asignado como el nuevo Párroco de Sta. Elena.

El P. Cronin tiene una extensa historia como Asociado a varias parroquias de la Arquidiócesis, el Consejo Presbiteral y como Capellán del Aeropuerto Internacional de Midway. Ahora está en la Rectoría de San Luis y el Padre Claudio residirá en la Rectoría de Sta. Elena. Damos la bienvenida al Padre Ed y esperamos con interés sus sermones en nuestras misas dominicales.

Welcome Fr. Dan Brandt (Resident) Fr. Dan Brandt—Ordained 1999 Archdiocese of Chicago Fr. Brandt has been active in the Police Chaplains' Ministry since 2004, assisting his predecessor, Fr. Tom Nangle. He served previously as Associate Pastor of St. William Parish, then as Pastor of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Bridgeport, before replacing Fr. Nangle upon his retirement in 2011. Fr. Dan is now the full-time Director of the Chaplains' Unit. He will be residing in the St. Aloysius Rectory effective the 2nd week of July and assisting with our Masses when his schedule permits. We welcome Fr. Dan and appreciate all the support he will be giving Fr. Claudio and St. Helen Parish and it’s worship sites.

Bienvenido Padre Dan Brandt (Residente) Padre Dan Brandt—Ordenado al Sacerdocio en 1999 Arquidiócesis de Chicago El Padre Brandt ha estado activo en el Ministerio de Capellanes de policía desde 2004, asistiendo a su predecesor, Padre Tom Nangle. Anteriormente sirvió como Párroco Asociado de la Parroquia de St. William, luego como Párroco de la Parroquia de la Natividad de Nuestro Señor en Bridgeport, antes de

reemplazar al Padre Nangle tras su retiro en 2011. El Padre Dan es ahora el Director a tiempo completo de la Unidad de Capellanes. Él residirá en la Rectoría de San Luis a partir de la 2ª semana de julio y asistirá con nuestras misas cuando su horario lo permita. Le damos la bienvenida al Padre Dan y agradecemos todo el apoyo que le dará al Padre Claudio y la a Parroquia de Sta. Elena y sus capillas.

They were present every time there was a Mass on Sunday, Funeral Mass, Baptisms and any other sacramental activity in the parish. CHANGES TAKING PLACE AT ST ALOYSIUS Our Pastor, Fr. Claudio Diaz, Jr. will begin to reside at the St. Helen Parish Rectory.

Fr. Claudio will continue to have office hours at both St. Helen and St. Aloysius. For the time being please call the St. Aloysius Office for appointments.

Our Mass schedule will not change. We will continue to have Mass on Sundays at 8am (Spanish), 10am (English) and 12pm (Spanish).

Our office Hours will continue as usual, Monday—Saturday 9am to 5pm, closed for lunch 12:30-1:30pm and closed on Sundays.

CAMBIOS QUE TIENEN LUGAR EN SAN LUIS Nuestro Párroco, Padre Claudio Diaz, Jr. comenzará a residir en la Rectoría parroquial de Sta. Elena.

El P. Claudio seguirá teniendo horario de oficina tanto en Sta. Elena como en San Luis. Por el momento, por favor llame a la Oficina de St. Luis Gonzaga para citas.

Today will be our last live stream of our Sunday Masses. During the pandemic we brought the Mass to your homes and now it’s time to come back to Church. We continue to stress that you wear a mask if you have not been vaccinated and that you stay home if you are feeling ill.

We want to thank Thomas Tran, Edwin Gualpa and Ruben Agosto for bringing the Mass to our homes every Sunday. Their work and dedication are a true testament of their love for St. Aloysius.
