Part B
6. Activities Reflecting the Goals and Objectives of the Institution:
Vision
To mould competent and well-developed persons who can take up the
challenges of the future on behalf of the community, the society, the nation
and the world.
Mission
To provide all-round development and training to generations of men and
women who are competent to carry out various functions of nation-building,
to equip them with value-based education and training, to empower them
with positive qualities and qualifications, to promote research activities and
social outreach activities, to provide leadership to persons and institutions
for community-empowerment and to ensure excellence in education and
related activities for better nation and world.
2
The College strives to help every student:
To understand himself/herself and discover his/her latent capacities
To understand his/her position as a member of human society and the physical universe
To think clearly and critically and communicate effectively
To learn how to make practical application of knowledge, attitudes and skills
To develop a sense of unity of all knowledge including religious vision.
To make every effort for the all-round development of every student that enters its
portals.
i. With these objectives in view, various schemes have been put into operation
and activities of intellectual, physical and cultural values are organized.
ii. Ample opportunities are provided for research activities and social outreach
programmes.
iii. To facilitate fuller realization of the objectives, it has been conceived as a
residential institution. This helps in maintaining an atmosphere of academic
culture around the College.
iv. The College also tries to give adequate attention to the development of the
overall potential of the student community by providing value based education
and facilities for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
v. The College maintains an atmosphere conducive to the free development of
social and religious aspirations and inner life.
2. New Academic Programmes Initiated (UG and PG):
NIL
3. Innovations in Curricular Design and Transaction:
The University of Calicut to which the College is affiliated has introduced major innovations
in curricular design by introducing semester with choice based credit system at the UG level.
This has brought about major changes and novelty in the teaching-learning process and
system of examination and evaluation. The system was introduced during 2009-10. Members
of various faculties have contributed to the same as many of them are members of Board of
Studies of the University of Calicut to which the college is affiliated. They initiated in the
current year processes of rectifications of the new syllabi introduced last year.
4. Inter-disciplinary Programmes Started
Choice based credit and semester system has restructured the existing programmes in
such a way that inter-disciplinarity is a basic feature of the programmes. There are Common
courses, complementary courses and open courses apart from core Courses in the system
3
Several Departments are giving adequate training in computer application and
communication skills by providing modules in collaboration with the College Informatics
Centre and Language Lab.
5. Examination Reforms Implemented:
The curriculum has less flexibility in examination reforms due to the present
affiliation system. However, with the introduction of Choice based Credit
Semester System, all the Departments of the College have adopted
continuous assessment of the students for internal assessment by means of
(i) Assignments (ii) Seminars and (iii) Test papers. With the introduction of
CCSS, the pattern of examinations has also been modified by the University.

Many students entering the portals of Farook College come from a poor economic
background. Some of them have an excellent academic record with high marks in examinations.
But they experience several difficulties in completing their education owing to their financial
woes.
In order to help this category of students, Farook College has implemented an Edu
Support’ Programme. IT is a noble venture started in 2004 in Farook College. IT aims to help
students and cover their expenses related to Books, loading, travel, food medical treatment, and
so on. It offers succor to students facing various difficulties.
In this era of globalization, when education is increasingly going beyond the reach of the
common man, Farook College has a vision. It is on a mission to help the poor, underprivileged
sections of students. This is a reflection of our social commitment and our firm belief that
education is a light that should spread throughout society.
Edu support seeks to give a helping hand to those undergoing financial hardship. It also
seeks to enhance the empathy of other students to the problems faced by their underprivileged
classmates. It is necessary to create a mindset to help others in need, amongst the entire student
community. This will give a good foundation for the future of our society.
Edu Support is backed by many charitable and philanthropic minded individuals and
organizations associated with the college. Funds are raised from several quarters such as Parent
Teacher Association (PTA), Qatar Old Students Association, Farook College Teaching Staff and
other well wishers of the institution.
Every academic year the ‘Edu Support’ Programme seeks to create awareness about the
existence of such a scheme among all the students. Then applications are invited. Later the
family background, annual income, marks secured, and other details of all the applicants are
closely scrutinized. After verification, all those students found deserving are given financial help
in tune with their requirements.
Since 2004 Edu support is functioning smoothly under the leadership of the Principal.
And a Committee appointed every year supervises the functioning of this noble scheme.
