HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman

god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the

world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god,

Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the

Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star

Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966.

Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods.

We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in

our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.

The Anvil, Issue 251, is the monthly newsletter of

the USS Hephaestus, NCC-2004, of Starfleet, The

International Star Trek Fan Association. All terms

and phrases from Star Trek are owned by

Paramount Pictures Corporation, a division of

Paramount Communications and all rights are

reserved.

Greetings, Here we are in July already. I sometimes wonder where the year goes. If you haven't been to your local comic book store in a while you might have been missing some Star Trek Titles from IDW publishing. Right now they are doing a crossover with Doctor Who including Daleks and Cybermen and Borg. To assimilate or exterminate that is the question.

Star Trek news seemed to be weak this month. If you have some good Star Trek News sources that you think others would be interested in, please feel free to send the sources to me to put in the Anvil.

We are looking for ideas for activities for our socials. We are planning a bowling night for August. So that should be something different. Anyone have any other ideas out there?

If you have any topics of interest you would like to see in the newsletter send your articles or updates to

[email protected].

As always see you around the ship, Capt. MarkAdam Miller [email protected]

Here we are in July already. Hope everybody had a wonderful, fun-filled 4th of July. Our major social for this month is the Captain’s Cookout. But I got to thinking (dangerous, right?), by the time you read this, the cookout will already be in progress, or will be history. So I hope you are reading this at the Cookout!

It is about time for us to have an election for Second Officer and the Executive Committee. Dennis Evans is our current Second Officer, and the Executive Committee is currently Sue Ellen Mohney, Denby Potts and Danny Potts. Mark Adam and I are automatically on the Executive Committee. Be thinking about whom you want to nominate for these positions with their approval of course. There will be more about this later.

That’s it this month, folks.

Signing off until next month,

Pat Hicks [email protected]

June 9.2012 – Social:

The social was board games night and we played Ticket to Ride. Ticket-to Ride is a game where you try to build railroads across the United States. The more cities you connect to the more points you get. Mike Burtyk won by using what we now call the Burtyk maneuver; drawing tickets and keeping only the ones that fit what you have already built. We also discussed going bowling for the August event.

Attendance: 7 people.

Personnel Updates:

No personal updates were sent in by press time.

If you have anything accomplishments you would like to share with the group please email them to me at: [email protected].

SSttaarrfflleeeett MMaarriinnee CCoorrppss Greetings,

We are looking for new Marines to join the unit from the USS Hephaestus.

SSttaarr TTrreekk NNeewwss Hasbro will launch its Kre-O Official Star Trek line at the San Diego Comic-Con. A picture of the Enterprise model can be seen on the front of this newsletter. The price, size and # of pieces have not been revealed. Also there will be Kreon figures (Kre-O version of Lego mini-figs) of at least Kirk, Spock and Bones. Hasbro has the license with Paramount. That is why Lego is not making Star Trek related items. J.J. Abrams will be making a commercial to sell the Kre-O Star Trek to tie -in with next years Star Trek movie.

If you are going to the San Diego Comic-Con a lot of Star Trek related events will be happening there. Hasbro, StarTrek.com, Her Universe, Simon & Schuster and Anovos are just a few companies that will have Star Trek related items to show and give away. This may be because of the new movie coming out next year in May or be because of TNG’s 25th anniversary this year. You can check out Startrek.com/news for a guide to what to find.

Do you miss Reading Rainbow for your child. You no long have to miss it because “there is an app for that”. LeVar Burton is introducing a Reading Rainbow app for the Ipad. The app is a free download with limited free access. Also you can subscribe with a monthly fee ($9.99) or a 6 month fee ($29.99). The subscription is tied to your iTunes account. Parents will also be able to log in to the reading rainbow website and see their child’s progress from the app.

If I missed some news item or you want special reports on a specific Star Trek related item please email me at [email protected].
