COMPANY COMMANDER UNIT BOOK
TACTICAL BRIEFING ON ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIERS
The available APCs range from the basic “armoured truck” to a purpose designed vehicle. With fewer infantry available, the need to protect
your infantry is much more important. APCs can also offer greater fire support, but their thin armour makes them vulnerable to anti tank fire. However they do protect infantry from the big killers, small arms and
artillery fragments.

This unit was designed to be carried by aircraft to accompany parachute troops into a landing zone to give the troops firepower, mobility and protection. The BMD has a 73 mm gun, a pair of machineguns and an AT-3 Sagger launch rail. No reloads are carried. It can carry half a squad of Infantry. The vehicle is usually airdropped by LAPES or parachutes from a large cargo aircraft such as the AN-2 Cub. It can also be carried in a variety of naval units such as the PTS and the T-4 landing craft.

One reconditioned EE-11 Urutu APC. This unit is produced in Brazil, and has been used effectively by the Brazilian Army. It has enough armour to protect against small arms up to 7.62 mm and shell splinters, and is armed with a heavy machinegun that can engage other light armour. It has only 1 crew member, so may not be as effective as other vehicles with a second crew member to operate the weapon. A good all round sturdy APC.

One FV-433 Stormer APC. Derived as part of the family of vehicles known as CVRT from which the Scorpion light tank was developed. This unit has light aluminium armour capable of holding out small arms fire and shell splinters. It has communication equipment and map boards used by Officers and commanders to direct operations on the ground. It can (When crewed by TAC HQ Section) co-ordinate air and artillery attacks and direct company sized units in attack or defence with greater ease than a TAC HQ on its own. It is protection from small arms and shell fragments with a machine gun for local defence.

One reconditioned BTR-152 Armoured Personnel carrier. This unit entered Soviet service in the late 1940s, and is basically an armoured truck conversion. Its large capacity of troops makes it good value, but the unit is hardly combat capable. with very thin armour, and an open top. Its use is in getting men and equipment to the battle and providing a level of fire support, and protection from splinters.

One reconditioned Saracen APC. This unit was replaced in the British Army by the FV-432, but has seen further service with many armies. Its armour is protection against the classic Infantry killers, small arms and shell splinters, but almost any AT weapon will cause severe damage. It only has a machine gun for self protection and fire support, but is a capable vehicle.
