We are proud to announce that BBSS NPCC has been awarded our very first Gold Award for UOPA 2012! This would not been possible without the commitment from each and every one of our Cadet, who have worked hard together as a clique, group, squad, but most importantly, as an entire Unit! This achievement would also not been possible without the strong support and camaraderie from all the Officers! Trained to be an NPCC Officer, not for the rank, but for the Unit! Last but not least, this attainment would also not been possible without the support from our Alumni, the many past generations of Cadets who have ventured out the gate of BBSS NPCC Unit, dropping by the unit whenever they're free, for the Unit! Once again, congratulations to all!

Change in Command for OC Unit In Dec 2012, we bade farewell to A/ASP (NPCC) Lam Cherng Yang as he steps down as the OC of BBSS NPCC after 5 years. Mr Lam was posted to the unit in 2008, taking over from our former OC A/ASP Mastuty Binte Mohamed Masat. During his 5 years in charge, Mr Lam had been actively involved in the unit activities and had built a strong rapport with the fellow Officers, Cadet Inspectors and Cadets. Many will remember his inspirational quotes and constant reminder for the unit to strive towards greater heights. Of which, the unit’s achievement of our inaugural UOPA Gold award this year has been a result of Mr Lam’s dedication and contribution to the unit. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest thanks to Mr Lam and wish him the very best for his new endeavours at Raffles Institution! From Jan 2013, A/ASP Daniel Soh will take over as the new OC of BBSS NPCC, while Ms Tan Lay Kian will take over as the new Deputy OC of the unit.

Project M.I. 2013 On 26-27 January 2013, cadets from BBSS NPCC, together with fellow students from BBSS participated in Project MI, a self-initiated donation drive aimed at providing the household staple to the less fortunate. The students went around the Bukit Batok estate to collect rice from each household, while a group of students took charge of repacking the rice into 5 kg bags. In total, Project M.I. 2013 collected a total of 15 tonnes of rice this year.

We would like to express our thanks to all donors, staff and students who had made the project a huge success!

Little drops of water, Little grains of sand, Make the mighty ocean And the pleasant land. Thus the little minutes, Humble though they be, Make the mighty ages Of eternity. -Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney

Lunar New Year Celebrations 2013 Following the weekly training, on 15 Feb 2013, BBSS NPCC held its annual Lunar New Year celebration with the traditional Lou-Hei session, where various ingredients such as radish, peanut, ginger, melon, sesame and crackers are tossed together for prosperity and good luck. It was a joyous occasion as we had our new batch of Secondary 1 cadets joining the unit for the celebration, together with the BBSS NPCC alumnus and Officers.

Huat Ah!!!

Last Saturday, 16th February, some of my squad mates/seniors, together with Daniel sir and I went for CLIF 2 drama preview at Singapore Polytechnic. I went for this drama preview not only because I’m a fan of the show but also CLIF means Courage, Loyalty, Integrity & Fairness, All of us take for granted thinking that Singapore is safe. Efficient and in-corrupted police is one of the reasons that Singapore is safe.

I was pretty excited for the preview as the drama is back for Season 2 with more action filled scenes & romance and I’m a big fan of Rui En. But unfortunately, Rui En was not able to attend. The artistes that took their time off & came to SP are Joanne Peh, Qi Yu Wu & Jayley Woo. I’m looking forward to the new show because there are new actresses & actors joining the drama. During the preview, we were showed the 1st episode of the drama & also a short clip of all the exciting parts in the 20 episodes. But sadly, there were no English subtitles for both the 1st episode & the short clip. Although there were no subtitles, I still enjoyed the show.

And of course we did not went home empty handed, we received a bag of goodies which includes a CLIF 2 posters and items of their sponsors.

C.L.I.F 2 Preview On the 16th of February, a group of cadets went for the drama preview of CLIF 2 at Singapore Polytechnic. Each alphabet in CLIF represents the Singapore Police Force, C is for courage, L is for loyalty, I is for integrity and F is for fairness. The 1st episode of the show and a short clip which previewed all the 20 episodes was shown during the preview. Joanne Peh, Qi Yu Wu and Jayley Woo also showed up at the preview. Everyone had a good time and looked forward to watching the show.

March Camp 2013 The theme of March Camp 2013 was Constellations. Divided into 6 clans, each named after a constellation with their own special qualities, it was envisioned that the camp would imbue a strong team spirit among the cadets and see them exhibit the qualities throughout the camp.

The March Camp was also the first time for our new secondary one cadets. After going through the various components of the camp, we hope that all cadets will be able to bring back invaluable learning points and most importantly, shine like star in both the NPCC and their own endeavours!

Area 18 Games Day 2013 The area 18 games day was held on the 1st of June at Bukit View Secondary School. There were many schools that had participated, including all schools from area 18 and other schools like Tanglin Secondary School and Raffles Institution. Each school came up with one game and one group from every school would play that game. The event lasted for about 4 hours and at the end, there was a prize presentation.

During the prize presentation, we were presented with 4 trophies -2 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. BBSS NPCC was also announced as the overall champion for Area 18 Games Day 2013!

Everyone had fun while playing the games they were participating in. Most importantly, everyone is looking forward to Area 18 Games Day 2014!

Area 4 Games Day 2013 The Area 4 Games Day was held at Whitley Secondary School on 1 Jun 2013 and several schools participated in the event. Our school took part in the Ultimate Frisbee segment of the games day. It was really fun and engaging experience and allowed the cadets to get to know more people from area 4. The event also provided an opportunity for the cadets to bond and give their best together. As the end of the day, all of the cadets expressed that they were glad that they were able to participate in the Area 4 Games Day and hope to be able to go for such activities again.

I had a lot of fun and I got to know my seniors more. I learnt that teamwork is a very important aspect when playing a game as all the other games including the game we played needed teamwork and co-operation. Compromising is also very important as we need to choose who should be the reserve during the game and so is honesty as well as if we did something wrong but the referee didn't know, it would have been wrong. I had a lot of fun talking with my seniors and taking photos with them and I got to know them better. I felt that I could have participated more actively in the game. The game was hard to play as first as I did not really play it during my free time, but I got used to it and so I started to get the hang of the game, which makes me realize that practicing really can help in certain situations be improve and become better at a certain thing for example, playing Frisbee. The game requires communication between each other as well so that we will know who the Frisbee would be thrown to. It was tiring after the game but having the experience of playing it and learning how to play a new game makes the tiredness and the traveling time worth it.
